Gothic 3 had it's fair share of bugs. But the amazing thing is how fast they've been patching them. I got the game on release date (uk release date) and as I've been playing through they've put out 2 patches, that have patched a large number of things that I hadn't even encountered yet. I have 2 broken quests in my list at this point, but since there are so many quests in game, I've just left these alone in hopes that patch 3 will fix them.

[$50 game + $250 1900p + $100 RAM = $400]

damn expensive game!

i could just get an xbox360

I'm buying NWN2 and Dark Messiah of Might & Magic, plus Silverfall ,all before xmas, don't know where I'll find time to play them all.

Gothic 3 is a long game,I hope there are no ground breaking bugs with storyline for my game, would hate to start again, especially since my character is level 62 and yes some things can still kill you with one hit.

Lot of good stuff coming out.....I've got a 360 too. G3, DMMM.....buggy but I couldn't resist. NWN2 and Gears of War (360) out very shortly. I also want Tiger Woods for the 360. I'll probably not finish one before Xmas. :frown:

OK . . . i did the unrecommended . . . i tried the Demo of Gothic1 . . .

letsee . . . it crashed twice . . . i guess you can't wait too long to 'reply'

anyway . . . weird . . . the unconfigurable controls would have me throwing this one out

i assume the default keys can be changed in Gothic3 . . . i don't think i can use the arrow keys for movement and then all over the KB for everything else. :p

tell me Gothic 3 controls are not like Gothic 1

.... or it's NWN2 for sure
:D

It doesn't sound like Gothic 3 is broken like DMoMM, as you're describing it. There's a memory leak and various performance issues and some of the monsters and combat are unbalanced, but nothing fatal - some people have finished G3 having done most of the quests.
Cool, thanks.

Gothic 3 does have customizable controls... as does Gothic 2.

It sounds like you can't go wrong with NWN2 either - some reviewers have said that storywise it's better than KoTOR, nearing PS:T territory. There will also be tons of community-added content available. Judging from the performance using the toolset, I'd say NWN2's requirements will be about the same as Oblivion's.

thank-you

G3 is intriguing . . . but since i am impatient, i will probably pick up NWN2 this week.

By the time i am finished . . . judging by Oblivion . . . G3 will have an expansion pack. :p

but it'll be bargain bin
[and my computer will be upgraded]

So how much of a system hog is G3? I mean, would a single X1900XT, X2 4400+, and 2 Gigs of DDR500 (3-4-4-8) suffice?

This is the problem when you try a demo of an old Gothic game,it is not the same controls as GOTHIC 3,do not compare the games ...control wise, stories are completely different too.

It will be playable, can fine tune the settiings to your own needs.I found Oblivion less of a system hog then G3.

The main reason I don't wanna play NWN2 is that it is said that its system requirements are definitely higher than Oblivion unlike Gothic 3 which runs fine after everything is patched.

This sucks!...I have just ran into a major bug where I can't get an artifact,so can't finish the game, the bug was earlier in the game ,but I did not find out until now, read some others have ran into it too.

Guess it will be time for NWN2, hope that has no show stopper bugs .

Is there a G3 demo available anywhere? I can't seem to find one. All I've found are patches for the UK version that I could download, but no game demo.

Damn, I guess I take back what I said earlier about nothing fatal. There are people who have completed the game, but I guess it's hit or miss. I also hear that plot characters can die which I imagine might be game-breaking.

There is a Marvin cheat command console mode ,but getting that to work is not easy, have to edit the ini file, that is simple enough, then add pak files etc....the bug problem I have is a certain important NPC despawns after you do certain actions ,so cant get the artifact, really bad bug.

Marvin problem bug thread. (even the cheat command has bugs :(.

sorry i missed off

Windows XP Pro + SP2 and all current critical updates

chipset drivers are latest for my motherboard.
direct x version is the one that came with gothic 3

currecntly using ATI catalyst 6.8

and the marvin console mode is bugged for me.
unable to see what i type or use the editor.

tried everything i can think of and the suggestions in this thread.

I have come to a dead end and need some help

did it fix your game?
Nope,I started again, however the new patch improves performance,I can have it on max detail now with only shadows off.

A lot of bugs fixes in this patch too,I should be safe now since I know what I'm doing 2nd time round ,bug wise ;).

I went with some smithy skills, sharping blades gives weapons 10 bonus on damage, heavy crossbow skill too, later I will add strength and get back up to master swordsman, lockpick skills handy too.

Btw new review .

Why is this game any good then ?
It's so damn good because you don't feel how the time passed, and it's 4AM, with a busy day following in a few hours. It "fills" you with it's atmoshpere, it fascinates you with the ease it kills you, in such a natural way you nearly hear some PB developer laughing somewhere in the background, making you wonder how the quickload button didn't die of stress yet...

It keeps you glued to your chair, showing you the most amazing vista when you reach the top of the hill, leaving you breathless in your chair. It doesn't let you go, because you HAVE to get the money to buy that kickass armor set, because it's so damn fun to see your character sharpen his sword at the smithy, or sitting in front of some campfire, making roast meat, while the NPC's around you talk about stuff, one of them is singing, and another is just standing there, on a chair, in such a natural and cool way you start wondering what he's thinking about.

It's so damn good because you can't stop questing. You run around doing things for hours and hours, until you forget the game's story, because it really doesn't matter, when you're working your ass off to gain access to the secret capital of the Hashishin people.

Click on " i" key( i for inventory )and select a weapon,ie.. sword.

You can drag items, weapons etc. from inventory to the shortcut toolbar icons at bottom for fast access,I use box 1 for sword, box 2 for crossbow, box 3 for bow,box 4 for health potions etc on the toolbar...just click on the number you want on keyboard .

Btw the control key displays the shortcut toobar icons at bottom of screen,so if it is not there hit the control key again.

skace: I was a bit pissed at the major bug I encountered, was level 67 and done a lot of the quests ,anyway with this latest patch with a new start(level 9 at the moment) I'm getting back into the game, bit easier now since I know what I need to do and where to go,plus the performance boost with latest patch is always nice :) .

I was going to buy NWN 2 since it is released in the UK tomorrow, but I have decided to buy that near Xmas,by then should be a few patches out for it.

Btw I think US fans will get a nice version of Gothic 3 when it is released on 13th Nov,with this 1.08 patch ,noticeable improvements in all areas.

One thing I forgot to add,the patch makes boars a lot easier to kill now,no more instant deaths like before the patch(stun lock by boars was lethal then).
