It's stupid to hate on hats, hat-wearers, or to call them unprofessional.
Yeah, where's the frog gonna hide his mullet?
No, no, it's a mallet, not a mullet.

wearing a hat is not stupid, hat-wearers aren't stupid. People who wear hats in professional environments are stupid.
Yes, it is all an ancient style thing, probably dating to the year that suits and ties where considered professional looking. However, that is the way it is.
If I where a business owner, I could care less if someone wore a hat, but you can bet that I would chew out a sales rep. or consultant that wore a hat while meeting a client in a professional environment. It just screams "Dude, I just got out of college and love this sick hat yo!"
I disagree with pretty much everything you have to say there.
This is one of those things were you can disagree all you want, but as long as the people who matter (managers, business owners, clients) feel a certain way, it's in your best interest to conform.
When someday you are in full control of your own paycheck, then do whatever the hell you please.
It's in my best interest to live in a way that fulfills me, which is exactly what I do.
In my experience, people like that are usually crappy managers/bosses/clients anyway.

You must be the tech support guy that sits in the corner cubicle in the basement. Pony tails and black anime shirts is the best work attire yo!
You're a professional - act and look the part.

You would quit your job if someone told you you couldn't wear at hat at work? Is it really in your best interest to limit your job options over a trivial matter like that? If a client paid me a generous hourly rate and had a harmless request to take off my hat in the office, it's much more fulfilling to take the paycheck than get all worked up about it. In other words, my right to wear the hat is not worth potentially losing tens of thousands of dollars per year to me.

Yep, you've got me down to a T
You live your life the way you want, I won't stop you. I won't give a rat's arse what you think of me.

Yes, I'd begin my job search.
