Arrgh...

The cops in my town set up a 5-car "star" speed trap, and just owned me for going 6 over. The bastards wouldn't even drop it to a 5 over charge, so I gotta pay more.

oh yeah, im in MI, and 21, with a 97 concorde. How much do you think those 2 points will jack up my full coverage insurance rates? I have no other points.

Can't you just go to the driving class and get the points removed? Then it won't jack up your insurance.

tax dollars hard at work! think perhaps the city's police department is just a tad under the quota for the month?

I agree, but I guess you gotta get some revenue some how. What was the speed limit.

What is a 5 car star? They verify your speed by catching you with 5 different guns?

Otherwise you could take it to court and argue they were off.

6 mph over? that's like a $20.00 ticket, and a little bit weak in the evidence department. I've never heard of this 5 car formation though. Do multiple guys radar you, or just one? If it's just one, you should be able to get knocked down to 5 by virtue of margin of error.

I hope it was 3 miles an hour, otherwise I hope the cop who got him gets a similarly silly ticket in the future.

Man, I was in front of a gawddamned mall... no school zone, nothing. The cop explained that today they were "setting up a 5-car 'star' patrol to specifically catch speedes on this 1/4 mile stretch of road." Ya know, if i was doing something stupid, or driving all crazy I could understand it, but 6 over? come on.

It was a 40mph zone, 100$ ticket, 2 points, because of the 6mph instead of the 5.

edit: yeah the guy said I had multiple radar reports at 46 mph, so I'm screwed in court.

Damn that sucks.

Maybe 5-car star is where 5 cars are positioned around the road. If they were low on quota for the month then they would've done this toward the end of the month maybe. I have a couple of cop friends here in Miami and after the 25th of the month is when they(the force) start writing silly tickets on people to meet the quota. Oh well... just bad luck I guess.

Man, I almost wish he woulda wrote me up for 10 over, just because its the same penalty and has more glory :) 6 over is just weak. That's like getting a MIP on the eve of your 21st birthday lol.

WTF!!!!

If you live in a small town, I'd start complaining.

A few years ago, the cops out in the hamptons decided to beef up "enforcement" with this kind of draconion activity. After about a month 6 cruisers got their tires slashed up at night. The draconion shiznit stopped.

$100 for 6 over is insane.

The thing is, my town is huge. why they targeted this measly piece of road is beyond me, because there are like 3 traffic lights over the course of a 1/2 mile. Not exactly a "haven" for speeders.

This reminds me of an excellent story in another post. This was not me, I just copied and posted their story:

So I get pulled over yesterday...
#3237092 - 11/13/03 09:03 AM Edit Reply Quote

...and it goes a little something like this:

Officer: Do you know why I pulled you over?
Me: To get a better look?
Officer: *laughs* No, because you were speeding.
Me: Oh, yeah, right.. well there's that then...
Officer: Are you getting smart with me?
Me: I don't really think there's much 'getting' to 'smart' in this situation, is there? Oh, right, answered your question then.. so, yes.
Officer: *laughs again* You don't care if I give you a ticket at all, do you?
Me: Not really, I mean, I'll take traffic school as I''ve not had a ticket in nearly 4 years.
Officer: Well, you can't take traffic school on this one.
Me: Bummer, well my insurance was just halved to $350/6 months anyhow...
Officer: Really? For this!?
Me: Yeah, I guess I got a multi-car discount or something.
Officer: Ok, well, it's raining so let's get this over with.
Me: Ok, here's my license and insurance.
Officer: Thanks.
Me: Sure, maybe you should go back to your car to call all this in so you don't have to stand in the rain.
Officer: Yeah, or I could just lecture you.
Me: Ok.... do I know how fast I was going?
Officer: *laughs* You don't stop, do you?
Me: What's the point, I like to have fun with all that I do.
Officer: How fast?
Me: Speedo said around 70, but the tach shows it was closer to 65... so somewhere inbetween.
Officer: 67. Pretty good.
Me: Thanks. Do I know the speed limit?
Officer: *laughs* Seriously, do you?
Me: No.
Officer: *points to sign about 20 yards in front of my car*
Me: Oh, right, 45... and I'm assuming it's the same back there...
Officer: *looks at license* where do you work?
Me: Dell
Officer: You live right down the road, and you work right UP the road.. and you don't know the limit?
Me: Well, I don't really pay attention to limits. I consider those for people who are happy with mediocrity.
Officer: Heh, well, you should have known the limit...
Me: Well, I guessed it was around 45 to 50, never really paid attention, but I was willing to take the risk ya know?
Officer: I saw you come around that corner, too.
Me: I wasn't speeding then!
Officer: Yeah, you were sideways.
Me: Oh, right, well that's fun and I had the stability control off....
Officer: Ok, you apparently know what you're doing here so I'm going to let you off so I don't have to get any wetter.
Me: Now what's that supposed to mean?
Officer: *laughs* I'll be lookin' out for you on a nice, sunny day.
Me: I'll have the windows down.
Officer: Have a good one, and I hope you aren't late for wherever you're going.
Me: I'll just have to go a bit faster to make up for it.
Officer: *blank stare*
Me: I'm kidding, I'm kidding! *revs engine* STILL KIDDING!
Officer: *hits top of car with glove* go on!

What's with the hitting the car? I mean, I dind't care.. but is that like a slap in the arse?

At least I didn't get a ticket for breaking the limit by 22mph, which was pretty awesome.

Just wanted to share, since I'm bored and all.
