Got my new (toy) engine today

Sent the old engine in ( a meager 2.5 cubic centimeters) and got the bigger, badder 3.3 racing engine.

Now all i have to do is remember how to put my car back together....its in many many pieces. Gotta order a few more parts too.

My R/C truck

I bought the RTR (ready to run) Nitro Rustler about 3 years ago for approximately $400 (iirc) but have spent many many dollars on aluminum, and now, engine upgrades. So, to answer your question...$400-$500 for a 2wd, 1 speed car/truck. Or upwards of $600-$800 if you get into 4wd with a 2 speed transmission

I have a Tmaxx, replaced the engine also but don't even recall what I replaced it with I haven't touched it in so long.

Spent about $500 on the total RTR (ready to run) kit and then another $125 IIRC on a new engine since the "stock" engine would always overheat and ran like shit.

I replaced so many damn parts in that thing it's got more after market in it than OEM and I didn't replace anything in it just to enhance it's performance but because of damage.

A 4wd truck that goes 50mph breaks pretty easily when it hits something solid. 🙁

I was just looking at some that go 65+ mph. :Q

I just mess around.....when I last had it running my cousin and I used to just destroy them. Every time we took them out meant a trip to the hobby store for sure.

Mine should do 60ish miles per hour with that engine. It had a top speed of 52 with the 2.5

It's ok, I understand. But if we were to run/race together I'll just roll over you. Literally

😀

Make sure you break in that motor well. Look up heat cycle break-in. Will help maintain life and helps power. The 3.3 had a bad habit of breaking conrods but traxxas is pretty good with warranty.

I think that's why I never got into the hobby, I have looked into it but all I could see was my insanity kicking in and endless repair bills.

This is why it's good to have a friend that's into them 😉

I have a pretty cool video of my cousin and i running them....we took a jump, him in front and me after him, he did a small jump and I did a front flip over him. Amazing what gets caught on tape...totally accidental but worked perfect. I'll try and find the clip later

I bought a used Savage 4x4 and those things are a headache and a hobby indeed. Not for the typical person who wants something trouble free and to use every once in awhile for fun.

I like wrenching on them, tuning the suspension and diffs, etc. If you don't abuse them they are pretty trouble free. But there is a good learning curve on tuning a motor that is best if somebody teaches you and let's you know what you need to hear. Troubleshooting a motor also takes some skill and knowledge.

Keeping them free of nitro gunk is important. That's what some denatured alcohol and some simple green and an air compressor is for.

My neighbor got hooked and has like 4 of them. He always comes over "dude, what's wrong with my motor" We took my Picco .26 and put it in his Jato. Bad idea - it was a turtle as soon as it hit second gear (meaning it flipped over onto it's back from all the power).

What is the power to size ratio as compared to a regular sized car?

They can normally out run a real car 0-50 easily. Off the top of my head my revo has 2.5 hp at probably 7 pounds.

That's 2.8 pounds per HP at 32000 rpm. A 3500 pound car with 1250 hp.

Back in my street racing hang out days, I remember someone brought a RC dragster to one of the parking lots, oh man that fucking thing was quick. I gotta quit watching videos, the itch to check into getting one is starting again, they just look so damn fun.
