Wasn't that a simple intake manifold replacement to correct the problem....at Ford's expense of course. ;)

Yes it was the '99 Cobra - All of the cars received a new intake manifold, catback exhaust, and computer calibration to produce the as-advertised 320 hp. I think somehow we benefitted from that in our '05's :D

What mods do you have planned? So far, I've only added the FRPP/Borla axle backs and a strut tower brace. I have a cold-air kit on back order and still deciding on which computer tuner to get...I'm leaning towards the Diablosport Predator.

I'm looking at some Flowmaster Mufflers (Delta 40 maybe), Steeda pulley's, CAI (not sure which one yet) and I will probably go with the SCT Excalibrator 2 tuner. If my SO would let me, I would go for the CDC Shaker Intake.

I actually asked the guy that...he said, if he can, he pulls one of the drive shafts out.
Yep I know someone that did that with their Talon.

I mean he only pulls it out for the dyno......then he puts it back.

That's awesome man... Can't complain about those numbers at all... Plus the RWD makes a world of difference...

I'd love to see the Dyno slip for that.......I call shens.

Nobody in their right mind would pay a markup on a Mustang (buddy here in PA bought the first MT GT his dealer got, paid sticker for it). These days they're probably selling under sticker.

Mustang GT is THE V8 power bargain, there is no discussion there. The one possible exception MIGHT be an absolute base model Ram 1500 + Hemi. The SRT-4 is putting out not much less for a lot cheaper, but if you want a V8 & RWD the Mustang is the way to go.

Those numbers are simply outstanding for the money.

Viper GTS

Which is why I don't own one. I don't know what they're selling for now but I did float out about 4 requests online about 2 months ago to dealers in the San Diego area, just out of curiousity, and they all had markups. I'd probably have to go up to Los Angeles to buy one; like I've done with pretty much every new car I've purchased since moving down here.

I do like the Mustang GT and I've owned a couple of them. I'd never pay a dealer markup though. Only an idiot would do that. I'm sure they'll be lining up for the new Cobra though and paying a $10k markup on it...

In Canada....it is illegal for a dealership to sell over the MSRP. :p

You also realise anything with an LS1 in it was higher in price for very little more. It's first year, so it has its bugs, but noghtin the dealership isn't happy to fix.

Oh yeah, quit posting.

Stock EVO:

0-60mph: 4.8 seconds
1/4 mile: 13.4 seconds @ approx 104mph
Braking 60-0: 108ft (better than a Ferrari 360 Modena)

WRX-STi performance is almost identical to the EVO.

Stock GT is under 5 0-60 and mid 13's 1/4 as well.

I know, they are very close. I'd give the nod to the EVO's AWD though over most drivers trying to launch the RWD Mustang properly. Can't argue about the handling and brakes though. EVO has you beat. So does the STi. ;)

the mustang is a little cheaper tho, and i think the standard US-spec Evo doesn't have the LSD and AYC... IIRC.

US spec has 2 active diffs for normal, 3 active diffs for MR version. 4.8 is comnsertive, when it first came out, Motortrend had a supercar shootout between cobra R, corvette, ferriris, lambo murcialago, jaguar xjr, that mercedes amg sedan(E55AMG?), viper, mossler MT900P and a evo. there may have been other cars, but i only remember this many. Anyway, the evo posted respectable numbers 4.56 to 60, excellent braking, 2nd or 3rd in the test i think, great g loads and middle of the pack figure 8s. I agree the evo is hideous, and so is the sti. Too ricer/tall/narrow/sedanish for me but it's a great driving car. Also remember, if you buy any wrx non sti, slap on a good exhaust and a ecu reflash, you'll easily make 280hp.

that's 300 crank HP easily.. much more than a lot of other V8's out there.

a stock 4.7L Dakota will dyno in the 200 range.. it's a reasonably quick truck too.

Many import V6s do just under a hair of these numbers, and they're V6's.
Not normally aspirated, they don't.
And number of cylinders is mostly irrelevant....the cubic inches is all that matters. Forced induction is simply a way of making a small displacement engine act bigger.

It's no more impressive to take a 4 cylinder and turbo it to the max and make it have 500 hp, than it is to take a 454 big block and do the same normally aspirated.
You have to forget that the 4 cylinder is a small engine at that point....putting the turbo on it makes it the same as a larger one....and you have to remember that you can always do the same to the larger engine, too.

Some of the most powerful F1 cars ever to race were turbocharged 4 cylinder engines making over 1000hp. Please, do go on about how impressive 500hp is out of a 454CI V8 though.

Any 500hp motor is impressive....but a V8 with 500HP will surley outlast any 4 banger with the same......plus, the V8 will have torque, and remember, HP sells cars, TQ wins races :)

well, aren't truck engine focus on torque than Horsepower?
Toyota's 4.7L on the LX470 and Land Cruiser has like 300hp, and the smaller 4.3L on the LS and SC has more hp.

The Mustang is an "affordable" car with a strong V8. Show me any other car that you can buy for the price of a new mustang with 300 HP. ;)

WRX-STi

Mitsubishi EVO

WRX-STi starts at $32,995
Mitsu EVO starts at $29,149 (with only 286 HP)

Mustang GT starts at $25, 860

Mustang GT has $4,000 dealer markup too. Yeah, the EVO has only 286hp...but it's still faster than the Mustang GT, handles better and has better brakes too.

Still, nice numbers. I like the new Mustang GT.

Sorry guys, apples to oranges. The EVO looks like some jacked up sedan, because it is.
The WRX, ditto. Don't get me wrong, the performance is great, but the mustang owns in appearance. If we could all drive as fast as we wanted, it would matter more.
As it is, the 'stang looks great stuck in traffic:p

The mustang has it all for me, looks, sound, reasonable performance.
Congrats on a nice ride, DaTT:)

he's right. the F1 motors are praticalyl rebuilt after every race. I dont think many people will be happy with their reliability records if they were given 900hp 3l 4cylinder engines.

Man, I'll take low RPM grunt over a screaming 4-banger any day. It's like the difference between 120mm and 60mm cooling fans. Even though they both move the same volume of air, who the hell wants to listen to the 60mm all day long? I get a tension headache just thinking about it!

I can't believe I forgot about the Charger/Magnum/300C. The Charger with the 5.7L V8 absolutely spanks the Mustang in power with 340hp and 390lb-ft of torque, and it starts at under 30k as well. It can even hold about 8 people in the back ;)

Whoa, nice torque curve. Got a little grunt down low, eh?

I love the new Stangs. I was very tempted to buy one, but I'm too addicted to AWD the moment. Didn't want to have to garage the Stang all winter, every winter.

the charger looks like a new gen mustang ripoff IMO

edit: the charger w/ the 5.7L V8 starts at 30.X, and only come in auto!:)

Ok first off, congrats on the dyno run and making nice numbers. Its very easy to get even more horsepower from the 05 mustang with simple bolt ons (cold air kit, exhaust). Just read any of the latest mustang magazines and they have dyno sheets galore showing off how much power can be gain with simple mods. Surprised no one has said why not drop 5 grand into the 05 mustang GT on super charger and be breaking low 12s heheh, but thats a whole different arguement.

2nd, how can you guys be comparing a mustang GT which is designed for all types of people (including those who enjoy a comfy, smooth ride) to a Evo or STI. Those two models are designed for the racing type in mind. They have the stiffer suspension, bigger brakes, summer tires (I believe 05 mustangs have all weather tires) and more horsepower because they are expected to have it. You also pay more for it too. Dont get me wrong, they both are terrific cars, but a better comparison would be an Evo and Shelby Mustang Cobra. Evo starting at 33k and the Shelby cobra SHOULD be 40k (I can be wrong on this, no official statement yet) so its an equal comparison to compare those two if you are comparing the mustang GT to an Evo (7k difference). Shelby cobra should be Due out next year , so ya ya, can always say its not out yet (same thing can be said about the Dodge Challenger, and Chevy Camaro, etc etc).

IMO the only thing giving the mustang GT some run for its money is the Neon SRT 4 which is 4 grand cheaper in MSRP and just as fast. But sorry, I dont want a FWD car, especially one that looks like a neon, yuck. But the performance is definitely there! (till you break 12s and battle with wheel hop)

Anyone read road and track? they just ripped a 13.7 on the new 05 GTO (check out their webpage, look at charger vs GTO). Thats pretty bad, LOL. In all fairness though, the magazine's Ive read, the average 1/4 mile time for the new GTO has been 13.3 - 13.5. Right around where a manual 05 Mustang comes out. BUT, the LS engines are awesome, and with minor mod's can be breaking 12s easy, but same thing can be said with alot of cars.

Charger, heck the SRT 8 charger with 425 hp and 44k price tag (price of model that was tested its base is 35k) only ripped a 13.3. More hp / tq doesnt always mean faster car.

Anyways, this arguement is pretty moot, I mean, anyone can just stick a big motor in a small car, and have one insane ride (small block ford in a miata For the win), always remember if your on the street, someone's always gonna have a faster ride.

But the Mustang spanks it in times. Weight and gearing I assume.

I was quite impresed with the low end myself. It's really not until 4k and a trip with your right foot to the firewall that you get full experience.

You obviously don't understand what I said. Yes, some of the F1 motors are impressive, but not because they are 4 cylinders.

All you are doing by turbocharging or supercharging is forcing more air into the engine than it could suck in by itself.
Which otherwise you could only do (after a certain level of modifications was reached) by building a larger CID engine.
The only way to make more power is to pump more air in, and then you can add more fuel.
Cams, compression, intakes, headers, etc. are ways of doing this, in small doses.

Forced induction is a way of doing it in a big way. But basically, all you are doing with forced induction is fooling a small engine into breathing like it's bigger....which may be necessary, given size constraints, rules, etc.
But really, if you know what you're talking about when you're talking the nuts and bolts of an engine, AND in high performance engine theory, then it really isn't that impressive.
Just a matter of having enough money to do it, that's all.
