What would Judge Judy say? Seriously, though, I think it is fair to expect that the damage to the car be paid for; but I don't see where there's a claim for anything else. When I say 'damage to the car' I mean everything that was affected: tire, rim, lug nuts, studs, rotor, etc. Good luck!

What about the gas money to drive to the dealership? 40 miles total.
What about the wear and tear on the car for the additional 40 miles of city driving.
What about the Hours spent going to the dealership?
What about the plans I have to break tomorrow with friends because I have to go to the dealership (missing tailgating at the Michigan vs. Ohio State game)?
What about the FACT that they put my life at risk?

The first 3 can be bought from me for about 200 dollars plus 4 gallons of gas, but the last 2, how do you put a price on it?

Be realistic here, you were never in any real danger.

You'd have to be a moron to not notice something like that before the wheel fell off.

Make sure they fix anything that was damaged (tire/wheel/lugs/whatever) beyond that don't make a scene.

I just got a tire rotation from a huge cheverolet dealer in my location and nowhere on my receipt does it say check your nuts...

If the are using an impact wrench with 100+ lbs of air pressure there is no fvcking way the nuts would come off unless the wheel was improperly installed and/or lack of air pressure in the Impact wrench. One other note at 75/hour those con artists should know enough to do their jobs right :)

People like you are the reason the employees aren't punished badly enough for doing dangerous things.

Yes, I know of one person who had their wheel fall off while driving after forgetting to tighten lugnuts. He said it felt like someone was jerking the steering wheel back and forth and he heard a loud thumping for a few miles before it happened. If you keep driving after that, it's your own fault.

The ONLY reason I noticed it was the fact that I saw the lug nut sitting next to my wheel. I was 1/2 way inbetween work and my home. They replaced the rear bushings, I figured they didn't secure the bushings all the way and it was banging around. If I did not see the lug nut on the ground than I would have kept driving and my wheel WOULD have fallen off, and I WOULD have been in a crash.

I only checked to see if there was anything hanging from the car, and there wasn't.

Exactly, how can they put a price on it? You could claim that you were on your way to the 7-11 where some guy bought the winning lottery ticket - if you hadn't had to stop, it would have been you! They owe you a bajillion dollars

They owe you actual damages. If you want to roll gas & mileage into that, fine. Time is stretching it. Anything else is BS in my opinion.

Was the lady who spilled hot coffee in her crotch in danger either? Well she made at least 750,000 from McDonald's from that one :)

I think he has a better reason to be pissed and sue then that lady did... ;)

i'd try being calm and collective. getting pissed off at them is likely to only make things worse. bring a tape recorder with you and/or get things done on paper but i'd go in and explain what happened, rationally. tell them you want to keep coming back to them and you things to be right. there's no real reason to get a ton of free crap, if they fix the problem and throw something in for your trouble as most places will do, call it even. fact if they own up to the problem and accept it, i think i would be more apt to go to place like that. Its not often you'll find someone actually willing to accept the problem as thier fault and do what's necessary to fix it.

Except that lady actually was injured. Whether the award was out of line or not is irrelevent, she was injured. Not almost maybe injured as is the case here.

That's like not charging someone for drunk driving because they never actually killed anyone...

Something like this shouldn't slide because IF the tire fell off the guy could have been killed! Just because he didn't actually get hurt does not erase the fact that someone in that garage fvcked up and could possibly continue to be a liability to the public.

If the person who did this was incompentant would you like him to be working on your SUV that your wife and kids would be driving in?!?!

Ok here is another scenerio using your mentality....Let's say GM found out it had a huge batch of defective tires out on there cars but said nothing because nobody got hurt yet...

Wifes car went in for service (Honda dealership) and they didn't put the radiator cap back on properly and it blew fluid everywhere. I was a little pissed but they fixed it all up and cleaned up the mess.

I'd be pretty assertive in your meeting. Your life was possibly at stake. Errors might be made, but that is a fundamental safety issue. We just got new tires for our Mazda, but after reading this, I checked the lug nuts. They're OK. Good luck OP.

Saw that you live in Michigan. What dealership was this? I used to be a porter at a Nissan/Mazda dealership.

Hey, if that's who you are, that's who you are, just don't go around claiming your concern is protecting everyone else as if everyone else is too stupid to know what your real motive is.
