Got coil whine ? =)

I'm not really sure who you're talking to, but you seem to be enjoying your own problem so carry on I guess.

you can't tell from the threads?

Anyways, I do enjoy it. No harm no foul. I'm just picking on the card and the situation. I could be ranting and raving how I hate nVidia and Amd rocks but I'm not. I like this card it just has some issues. If there are any prospective buyers or owners that have the same qualms that I do It helps to bring my experiences forth.

That video was 3dmark 11 and frame rate was about 80 IIRC. I can reproduce that in Crysis 3 pretty easily but I can "control" it better with 3dmark.

Have I been complaining about the card too much? I actually really like the card. It is gorgeous and performs awesome most of the time. The card just got launched with borked boost, bad Tomb Raider drivers and I mean very bad (the lara's skin had artifacting like the video card was overclocked to high with tesselation on amongst other things like CTD's), horrible coil whine and no back plate with exposed memory chips. Uggh, I guess I do have a couple qualms... and to top it off the card was a g-note.

could you imagine If I was so easy to please =) I guess that comes from years of being a Radeon fan 😛. still am and proud of it!!!

I remember you not being satisfied with the quality of the Powercolor 7970 you bought and returning it. At least you're an "equal opportunity whiner". 😉

Seriously though, you are consistent with wanting what you buy to be a high level of quality. Rightfully so, I might add. I take your critiques more seriously than most, because you are not brand loyal (you just love the tech) and call it as you see it.

That 3rd video was well done and is just so useful in such a situation.
I really like the way you kept referring back to the monitor, apps running and clock speeds etc with each change.
Well done indeed.

Well your card sounds much worse than mine do. The sound from mine is fairly mild and I don't notice it unless I listen for it and take off my case side panel to hear it better.

I tested mine in another computer before I installed them in mine, and they made noise in that machine as well, so I think it is the cards not the PSU.

This is what my two sound like. They sounded worse when I tested them in the other machine. That may have something to do with them still having the air coolers on and it helping to amplify/resonate the noise.

Really doesn't bother me at all, and with the case side panel on I can't even hear it unless I listen for it and there is no noise in the house.

Yours sounds pretty bad in comparison.

Yeah the first 7970 I had from HIS ice Q whined like crazy all the time. Even dragging on the desktop.

I had to argue with newegg to refund me even though it was less than 30 days. Replaced it with the card I have now and no more whine.

Your water loop looks great , do you have a build log anywhere?

Nope, no log. Just sort of winged it this time. In my first loop I had a tube res as well, but one much taller than the one I am using now. When I got the Titans I knew I wanted that smaller one.

Still not exactly how I'd like it. I am waiting for the Corsair 900D case to come out, then I am going to move it into one of those. I'd like to ideally have all the tubing with straight lines, particularly around the CPU area.

There are some more pictures of it at OCN. http://www.overclock.net/lists/display/view/id/5039463

That coil whine is almost as loud as my old HX850 powersupply was under load, so I feel your pain, on a side note that live "Fingering" probably got your card hot, like really hot lol. I would return it for sure, I returned an XFX BEDD for less whine than that and it wasn't nearly as expensive.

cards are in stock... Off to make the 2 hour round trip. Wish me luck, may the Graphics cards gods be in my favor and grant me a quieter card.

Love the commentary.

This is my GTX Titan. My particular card has rediculous coil whine and it is going back to Microcenter as soon as they get stock back in and I can get an exchange. They already o.k.ed it. I just wanted to share it with you guys first. I've had 7970's that whined and a couple oother cards but nothing like this.

ps. Make sure you speakers aren't turned up

edit**

Oh and thats with the gpu fan speed at 70% just to give you guys an idea of the magnitude of the coil whine

Well the excuses of the naysayers are all used up. You'll probably be tarred and feathered by the nv focus group despite the fact you are just a gpu fanboy, not a brand fanboy.

On topic, that is a horrible sound. My 690 didn't have that, I wonder if it's common there too.

You think for $1k they would put top of the line components, not bottom of the line.

What are the temps at 46% fan? The 690 fan was ramping up fairly heavy and hitting 80C pretty quick.

I don't know what the temps were. I didn't run the card like that. It was only to prove that the fan speed was ramping up causing the sound.

Got my new card in hand. Will be installing it in the next 4 hours or so. I will definately be reporting back with my findings

Who are these naysayers?

You guys don't need to make up people to have arguments with, just find another thread.

It's coil whine, not the discovery that GK110 has less than half the transistors reported by Nvidia.

People were saying it didn't sound like coil whine. It was proven to be.

So coil whine is now acceptable to you, great!
