This is my GTX Titan. My particular card has rediculous coil whine and it is going back to Microcenter as soon as they get stock back in and I can get an exchange. They already o.k.ed it. I just wanted to share it with you guys first. I've had 7970's that whined and a couple oother cards but nothing like this.

ps. Make sure you speakers aren't turned up

Oh and thats with the gpu fan speed at 70% just to give you guys an idea of the magnitude of the coil whine

That's coil rattler and not coil whine lol. I've never heard anything like that. The only time I've every had what I would call coil whine was from a time when I ran onboard sound. Something comes through the speakers that relates to FPS. I guess I"m lucky I've never heard anything like that from any Nvidia or AMD/ATi gpu I have had.

It's insane really. I can go down stairs 20 feet away and hear it. It doesn't do it all the time but it does it off and on in a repeatable manner. I can be playing a game and look at something in particular and for no reason it will rattle like that, then turn the mouse away and it'll go away, flick back and it sounds like a rattle snake is next to me.

Wow! That is pretty loud. The coil whine I've heard in the past has been more high-pitched than that. It does sound more like a rattle.

Does it only do it with vsync off? What brand do you have? Just curious

Shouldn't be a big deal really, should only do it when your framerate is in the thousands

Definitely the most extreme case I've heard, outside very high current power supplies.

Watch out, you are complaining too much about your nvidia card...

Both of my Titans have coil whine and it's noticeable with uncapped FPS. It's common and a lot of people are saying the same on OCN. Mine have a little of that rattly sound as well. You may very well wind up with exactly the same thing on the replacement.

It only happens when the cards are running really high framerates. Do people RMA for it ? My 680s made a little bit of noise as well when they were running full bore with uncapped FPS, the Titans are definitely more noticeable, but not a big deal.

My 470s and now my 7950 don't make any noise, outside of fan/air movement.

I wouldn't accept anything else, not even from a $50 card.

That video was 3dmark 11 and frame rate was about 80 IIRC. I can reproduce that in Crysis 3 pretty easily but I can "control" it better with 3dmark.

Have I been complaining about the card too much? I actually really like the card. It is gorgeous and performs awesome most of the time. The card just got launched with borked boost, bad Tomb Raider drivers and I mean very bad (the lara's skin had artifacting like the video card was overclocked to high with tesselation on amongst other things like CTD's), horrible coil whine and no back plate with exposed memory chips. Uggh, I guess I do have a couple qualms... and to top it off the card was a g-note.

could you imagine If I was so easy to please =) I guess that comes from years of being a Radeon fan :p. still am and proud of it!!!

IMO coilwhine or rattle that loud is unacceptable for a $1000 card . It should of had solid chokes which the price clearly should have reflected on top notch components. Man i had that card in my shopping cart twice. Today, I bought a 2nd 7970 instead.

Made another video cause people on here and EVGA forums seem to think something is touching my fan yet the fan speed remains constant and the noise comes and goes.

It's amazing that after 20+ years of doing this stuff I get suggestions about a wire touching a fan. lol, no wonder why we are still faced with seemingly simple catastrophic problems worldwide :p

yes... I would RMA a $1K card for that reason...

all my previous cards had some sort of strange noise, but they were all old and cheap

None of my Titans have that. The wrong power supply / video card combo can cause this problem.

You're obviously using a bench grinder in the background. But seriously, that's not acceptable time for an RMA unfortunately.

Should the same $1K card come with a back plate to protect and potentially offer similar cooling that the memory chips enjoy on the front of the card.-- shameless plug :whiste:

Should I check to see if my kitchen sink is running too? I haven't encountered this magnitude of noise from any card with the "high quality", if I don't say so myself, PC power and Cooling 750 made from Seasonic.

I have back up PSU's to try but I really don't think that is neccesary

Oh yeah, the PC Power & Cooling 750. That use to be my PS. :)

different one I bought that one from you for a friend cause mine was so good. Mine is red (Crossfire edition) yours was Black (sli). Just so you know, that PSU is still cranking away in his rig, now with my "old" 7970 Lightning

I'm going to be posting up another video cuz some dude on the Evga forum is convinced it's my fan , lol.

When you're running 3DMark, stop the fan for a few seconds with your finger by pressing on the middle, that will prove for sure if it's the fan or not. I know it's not, but...

Yup that's what I was going to say. I had a psu that the fan would be silent until I loaded it. When the fan spun up to a higher rpm, it would rise up a few microns and catch a wire. I doubt it's the fan, but stopping it is the only way to be totally sure. Obviously, you already set a constant speed, but who knows if the Titan firmware perfectly follows that.
