LOL.

The funniest part about this, is CA state regulations will prevent any deterioration of conditions for the elite liberals.... but check out where all the coal plants that can now start dumping into streams again are located:

I support this change. Lets gut the regulations on "Trump's america" and keep them for the rest of us. Let them roll in their filth. If only we could wall the air in above them.

It's the mines that can dump into streams, not the power plants.
The plants just puke heavy metals into the air.

Natural gas is the better fuel.
Coal should die an ugly death.

Coal is deader than dead for so many reasons. It's not going to come back.

1) Natural gas is cheap and cleaner.
2) Why would any investor start planning to build new coal plants when a new president might be elected in four years? They might be halfway through construction when a new president who cares about the environment takes office.

Good. That is exactly what they want.

Is this Coal Ash, or a less than purely toxic endeavor?
Gob, which is a mixture of coal and waste rock. When the a long wall miner rips out a coal seam, it often takes some of the adjacent rock with it. The coal is screened and the gob is the reject material. Gob is usually high in sulfides, producing acid mine drainage.

While the government is cleaning up old messes, paid for with a tax on coal, this rule change will allow the coal industry to make new ones. https://www.osmre.gov/

Bottle the acid drainage and sell it to the rust belt. Tell them it has electrolytes.

It's a brilliant strategy that conservatives have used for decades to keep their voters loyal: "eliminate evil regulations!" that promise to keep their jobs (they never do), all the while, those eliminated regulations allow heavy metals and industrial waste to pollute those voters' water supplies, keeping them poisoned, stupid (malformed, arrested brain development) for generations, to keep them as loyal, unquestioning simpletons that respond only to simple, monosyllabic talking points.

It's really quite shrewd.

If you guys have ever travelled to the coal mining areas of WV the mining waste has already ruined many streams and turned them into unusable habitat for fish. They want more coal mining in that area as it has large reserves and an uneducated population that is willing to perform it which is a perfect recipe for manipulation. I've never agreed with a party 100% and still don't and the EPA serves a vital role in our country that needs to remain unhindered. If they'd been around back before the mining companies were allowed to kill the rivers they wouldn't be like they are today.

Nobody in the US is building new coal plants. They're being aggressively retired since most of them at or past end of useful life and NG/renewables have been eating their lunch. Utilities need to make investments that will last 20-30 years and building something that could easily become a stranded asset in a few years and more expensive to build per megawatt isn't an option. New capacity forecast for 2017 is like 1/3 NG and 2/3rds renewables. Most of the major coal mining companies will be out of business in 10-15 years, if not sooner.

Long enough to bridge us to super cheap solar. Wind is already quite competitive these days. At this point storage needs to catch up not so much generation. If manufacturers can get battery pack costs down to $100 per kWh or less the carbon economy is mostly done for.

Hey, this is really no big deal for those states that have nothing to do with mining coal. And seeing as if most coal mining occurs in GOP controlled states anyway, well, if they want to poison themselves stupid, who are we to deny them their desires?

They voted for Trump, so doesn't that say it all?

Well principles aside we'll probably end up paying for it when the music finally stops for the coal industry. The only things this industry is going to leave in it's wake is a ruined environment and the people they've used to make it so.

Well...if this ONLY affected the Trump voters, that would be one thing...but sadly, the pollution will eventually make its way to the ocean where it will affect sea life...and I'm pretty sure they didn't vote MAGA...or into the ground water where those silly libruls live...so they'll have to buy even more fancy imported bottled water..WINNING for Donald's business friends........But hey...let's not let silly librul environmental restrictions interfere with making money. It's the American way!

Another ridiculous regressive move by the GOP. It really is a shame that the terms conservation and conservative seem to be so mutually exclusive.

Make America Disgusting Again.
