If you truly believe that life begins at conception then you have to believe that.

Just like if you are pro-choice because a woman can do what she wants with her body you have to support legal 8.9 month abortions for any reason.

No, people do not HAVE to follow your dictations of THEIR beliefs.

edit; sorry I did not notice a troll derailment by cybrsludge, mostly sorry for those that replied to him.

The question is the relative merits of that right versus the merits of the woman's right to self-determination.

Interesting that it has now morphed right to her body to right to self-determination.

A right that is denied to half the population. If men do not get a right to self-determination why should they care if women are denied the same right?

You must be really pissed that Medicare doesn't cover hysterectomies for men.

Can everyone on this forum just agree that men should be allowed to abort/birth any child they are carrying, so that we can end this stupid trope?

Well then so was Hitler, WW2, and the Holocaust... but you don't see us parading around that stupidity. This guy should stay out of public office.

They do if they want to avoid being hypocrites. As well as avoid looking like an idiot by contradicting their own beliefs.

They only have to if they want to avoid being called a hypocrite by you. Since false dichotomy is the primary tool you use to debate, it's basically impossible to avoid that anyways.

Funny how gay people are allowed to marry people of the opposite sex just like straight people.

But Liberals keep complaining that gay people can't married :hmm:

One might make the case that WW2 led to the establishment of Israel.

As well as the freeing of European colonial possessions.

Maybe God did want it after all?

I guess I missed conflation in your 'debating' toolbox. Same sex and same race marriage are protected by the same laws.

The Conservative line used to be 'we'll trade the small number of abortions that are the result of rape or incest for the millions that are a matter of convenience.' but that was back in the ancient times of compromise and reason.

Am I the only person not offended by that this guy said? I don't share his religious faith, but it seems to me to be an entirely legitimate religious belief that God creates all children, even those created under terrible circumstances, and that it is murder and an abomination to God to kill those children, born or unborn. I see no basis for outrage here.

No you're not the only one. I've only skimmed the thread but cybersage and nehalem256 seem to be in your corner. They're there for different reasons but that's still very amusing.

I recently represented a man who drowned his baby during a fit of severe mental illness. His family are devout Christians. His mother (who unfortunately passed away recently) felt strongly that God had taken the baby because they as a family were not sufficiently engaged in their faith. I don't share her faith, but I respected that belief and also respect this candidate's belief (even if I don't share it) that children born of rape are God's creations and should be protected. As to your example, I am not really a religious person, but I think if I were, I might in fact believe that God might inflict such a terrible scenario on me and my family in order to fulfill a larger, positive objective for his people.

But all that kind of goes against the whole free will thing. Or it shows that God is an ass. You pick.

Wait - where is the flaso dichotomy? Here is the claim made:

"Women have the right to decide about their own bodies."

which is then quickly followed up with "women do not have the right to decide about their own bodies when the due date is near".

The only difference between saying women cannot have abortions close to their due date and not have abortions at all is the timing of where you stop them from doing what they want with the life inside them.
