In essence, I'm compelled to agree with you. My semi-rant was more in reference to what's going on with the Repubs, with the Dems being of lesser concern.
I do feel though that if Hillary wins, she's going to have to pay heed to Sander's message and the considerable amount of Dem voters that support his platform. If she doesn't make an effort to effectively and sincerely address those concerns raised by Sanders and his campaign, I'm not at all confident that Hillary can survive a run for a second term, with the thought in mind that the Repubs will have somewhat recovered from this awful awful mess they've created for themselves and will be set to put up a legitimate contender in 2020.
Politics has direction & limiting factors. Bernie & Hillary are headed in the same direction. Repubs will limit progress, leaving both short of their goals. Dems get that.
On the other side of it, Repubs are directionless, dug in with failed trickle down ideology. They made that choice when they turned obstructionist after 2008 rather than making an ideological pivot. Their current strength arose from catching Dems flat footed in 2010 & enormous gerrymandering following the census. They had a plan. Dems didn't.
At the presidential level, they've arrived at the point where their ideology cannot successfully pretend to deliver to their base or the general population. Not even Trump the Redeemer can sell that. His pitch is still trickledown bullshit. His appeal is purely emotional.
At the State level, their governance is a shambles in places like Kansas, Wisconsin, Michigan & Louisiana. Their social issues litmus tests internally limit advancement to the Brownbacks, Jindals & Walkers- politicians who have no answers for people less than well to do.
They can't run what they don't have. All I can see is a stable full of nags.
