In general, it seems that once progress is made, repubs tend to jump on board since their constituents suddenly recognize these public services do have an actual, positive impact. They still aren't happy to have to pay for them, and they'll try to wriggle so that their side can get credit for the services, but they definitely don't want to lose them.
Why can't we look that all the other countries for ideas. Oh look how great America is! No we're not we've been falling behind for decades. paying more and dying sooner.

You forgot the holy grail of buying junk insurance policies across state lines.I'll say this for Ryan, his presentation today very clearly laid out why every Republican isn't going to get what they want from repeal and replace, since it will have to be passed through reconciliation. Trying to get the Tea Party to think logically is probably a complete waste of time, though. They shut down the government for two weeks thinking it would get them a repeal while Obama was still in office (and the Dems controlled the Senate). Not very smart.
'Course, his presentation of why the new system will be better was a complete farce. Still trying to sell that 'we are giving people a choice!' nonsense, ignoring the fact that choice requires actually having enough money to be able to afford different options. Also his pitch that Health Savings Accounts will let everyone be smart consumers that will drive down the cost of healthcare is truly laughable.
Yup, such is the nature of these gov't programs. No one wants them til they have them, and after that it's pretty much locked in.In general, it seems that once progress is made, repubs tend to jump on board since their constituents suddenly recognize these public services do have an actual, positive impact. The reason Spidey once said is too many black guys die young from gang shootings
Are you spidey? Do you think he has some knowledge in the subject that no one else does? Do you agree with spidey?
I ask because there are posters here that are that stupid and will believe such things and since you didn't include a sarcasm tag I'll have to assume you are such a poster.
Relax, the hyper sensitivity is part of the reason us Democrats lost. Be vigilant but don't be too sensitive. You're a lifer and. I'm confident you know Spidey was a complete tool. Anyone who reads that and believes it is too far gone to save.
After Spidey made that claim I started to look at charts like the above and almost always violent death is factored out. I haven't looked at that chart (yet).
I can't help but shake my head at the "I don't want to pay for maternity" conversation.
So the Republican "plan" is a $600 billion gift to the rich while a gutting of the system for everybody else. Jesus Christ, at this point why don't we all just give all our money to the wealthy and skip the middle man? Then we can go whip ourselves because it is our fault that the rich aren't as wealthy as they want to be.
How does a conservative watch this debacle and keep his gorge down?

This is one of the reasons why Republicans raged so incredibly hard against the ACA to begin with. They were confident that once it was actually in place people would not want to lose the benefits and security it gave them.
"The AHCA, it's like the ACA but we added the H because we knew you would Hate it."
You can't peal back most of those regulations during reconciliation, so it is literally impossible for him to "drop a great deal" of those regs unless by "great deal" you mean "a handful".
These essential items required in a health plan that makes the plans more expensive can be dropped by the HHS:
HHS might also be able to alter the language on "essential benefits" that the law requires insurance plans to cover, which include trips to the emergency room, maternity and newborn care, and mental health services, Monk said.
"The law requires they have to cover 10 essential health benefit categories, but how that gets defined, a lot of that is interpretative," Monk said. "And of course, everything the Obama administration interpreted was more, more, more, more expensive coverage, and all these things lead to premium increases."

It's got nothing to do with reconciliation. Over 1400 regulations can be dropped by executive order of the dept of HHS. That's the kooky way this legislation was written by Pelosi, Harry Reid and Co. Still don't believe me? Well, it's articles like this that I'm going by:
“It’s got two or three pieces,” Collins said. “Repeal and some part of replace can be in reconciliation. There’s 1,400 different items within Obamacare that can be done by [Health and Human Services Secretary-designee Tom Price] once he’s in, in that group, and then there will be other potential replacement pieces that aren’t appropriate in the reconciliation that can roll out one by each.” -

I can find more sources if you'd like.
Try taking a step back and reflect on what you get out of cheerleading this comically inept joke of a bill. I mean, even pcgeek can figure out the underlying problem is out of control prices which american conservatism can't possibly fix because they're allergic to cost controls; maybe he can fill you in on the key details by speaking idiot well enough.
Oh I'm not cheer leading the bill as it stands. It's merely a starting point. My post that you highlighted was in reference to what may happen if there is no bill passed. It's possible that we'll have to live with Obamacare but w/o its regulations. That'd be better than nothing. I am cheer leading dropping OC regs.
Seems a dumb assumption that comically inept bill writers will magically achieve after a lifetime of incompetence. It's also comical that you believe dropping women's heathcare coverage will save you money, when it'll obviously be tacked onto your wife's costs.
