Love this one:

Brake until the last fraction of a second before impact,
then let off your brakes. This will cause the front of your car to rise, increasing the odds that the struck deer will pass underneath your car, rather than be lifted into your windshield.

Yea, brake with the goal of running over the deer.

It's better than the alternative. Another. *warning: images may be disturbing to pansies*

That actually may be a good idea.

What the fuck? How is that possible? I'm calling shens on that number.

# of animals + people in America > # of animals + people in NZ. ...just a thought...

I'd also say the same is probably true for New York (state). Hell, the population of the city is alone greater than that of NZ, no?

Obvious yes the population of New York is much larger than NZ, but my comment wasn't in the context of NZ. That number really seems very, very high to me (intuitively). I have no data to back it up, just seems really big to me.

And yeah the population of NYC is about double that of NZ.

Do some research on the Adirondack Mountains. That park is huge, probably 10 times the size of NZ. People think of NYC when they think of NY but Upstate NY is gorgeous and there's a lot of nature out there.

There are a ton of animals. And they are all the opposite of intelligent.
Imagine the number of cars that are in the state of New York. Imagine the number of roads, how many people travel, the distance people travel, and where some of those roads go.

I'd say that is a fairly conservative estimate imho. Seeing for myself the results of car-animal collisions of all types, just seeing the dead animal on major high ways (and dead animals tend to get cleaned up by authorities fairly fast), I think it's easy to see those numbers.

A lot of people not from the U.S. sometimes have trouble even recognizing how much driving we do here in the U.S., and the distance many people drive every day.

Here in Michigan car-deer accidents are very, very common and are the reason why we have such a huge deer hunting season.

In a typical year, I have from one to three right directly in front of my home. You get to learn the sound of them after a while.

Haha that's kinda funny. And yeah that number does sound quite crazy high. I always pictured NY as being building after building with no nature, but guess I'm wrong.
