Around here, it's rare to see a deer out and about during the daytime.

Sorry, but this made me laugh. I would feel differently if the deer had been in a crosswalk, but it is obviously jaywalking.
Have you ever used Google maps street view? This is quite common due to the way the images are merged.so wait the google truck made road kill of bambi?
second picture looks photo shopped.
The lines dont meet up.
the New York State Department of Transportation estimates that 60,000-70,000 deer collisions happen per year in New York alone
Love this one:
Brake until the last fraction of a second before impact, then let off your brakes. This will cause the front of your car to rise, increasing the odds that the struck deer will pass underneath your car, rather than be lifted into your windshield.
Yea, brake with the goal of running over the deer.

What the fuck? How is that possible? I'm calling shens on that number.
Obvious yes the population of New York is much larger than NZ, but my comment wasn't in the context of NZ. That number really seems very, very high to me (intuitively). I have no data to back it up, just seems really big to me.# of animals + people in America > # of animals + people in NZ. ...just a thought...
I'd also say the same is probably true for New York (state). Hell, the population of the city is alone greater than that of NZ, no?

And yeah the population of NYC is about double that of NZ.

In a typical year, I have from one to three right directly in front of my home. You get to learn the sound of them after a while. Here in Michigan car-deer accidents are very, very common and are the reason why we have such a huge deer hunting season.
Hell yes they are. My dad just hit one in my mom's car within the past couple weeks. Here in Michigan car-deer accidents are very, very common and are the reason why we have such a huge deer hunting season.
