It seems you need to have access to these two sites for it to work, if you are at work or school and they block any of these it wont work.

Why? If Bing was better than Google (hypothetical) why wouldn't you use it?

I use Google Apps for my domain, Google Analytics for my websites, Gmail for well email ;), I use Google Docs, and Google Calendar to back up my BB calendar, my iPhone calendar, and my desktop calendar. Oh and on top of that Google's search pages load up quite faster than Bing's.

It would have to substantially better for me to switch

They are both pretty much instant for me :\

I still dont see why youd need it to be 'substantially better', using bing wouldn't stop you using those other things. I use loads of MS live services but still use google search.

I always just use the search bar in firefox anyway, I dont think I've been to google or bings homepage in ages (apart from just now to test the speeds).

All browsers have a Google search window now don't they?
Why do you need to go to Google.com?

because when I search in the toolbar it uses the selected tab, and with gestures I can just create a new tab that automatically opens to google with just a slight move of my mouse. No need to move my mouse all the way to the top of the window.

Ctrl K then type your search. No mouse movement needed (this is in firefox)
