Buzz just enabled on my Gmail. It prompted me to take a closer look at my Google privacy settings (something I monitor with Nazi-like rigor on Facebook.)

My trust level in Google just dropped 75% based on how connected they've made everything. My gmail account is usually my "friends and family only" space. Google keeps buying blog sites etc and integrating them and I just realized how much public data is linking back to my private data. Do not want.

Currently pissing me off: no way to delete a Blogger account. I only have two or three posts as a co-contributor to a friend's blog but I still want to zap the account since I never intend to use it. Their suggestion is "edit your profile and put in all false information" but that doesn't disconnect it from my Google profile. Grrr.
 
this is just like having the SHARE section of Google Reader moved into your mailbox. Big deal... My friends aren't using it like twitter yet nor are they linking it w/ twitter yet.... we'll see.
 
I dislike that they picked up Twitter's "follow" idea instead of Facebook's "friend" idea. I'm being inadvertently followed by about 50 people so far, most of whom I don't know, just because I once emailed them about a craigslist item.

This functionality is basically useless unless you REALLY control your email distribution lists and are willing to manually point out who should see your updates each time you post a new one, or you absolutely don't care about privacy.
 
Yeah, this looks like the beginnings of integrating Wave.

I haven't found a way to disable comments appearing as new buzzes. Which is rather annoying. Every time someone comments on a "Buzz" it brings it back to the top and indicates it as a new buzz in the sidebar (even though it is just a comment on an old buzz). I wish there was an option to disable this.

Disable for you or from others? It asked me about whether I wanted status = buzz right when I logged in. I don't think I can disable it from other people though.

Why should I have to turn off something I didn't turn on in the first place? I signed up for Gmail, which I was lead to believe was an email service. Now I get free built in bullshit social networking. Thanks, but no thanks Google.

Lighten up, it's a link that you don't have to click on. Google isn't forcing you to use it. Do you throw a hissy fit like this when you google something and they give you more than the one link that you wanted?
 
it's not really WAVE either because wave allows you to branch out and to drag people in and out. Wave also allows you to reply to a certain part of the message (almost like quoting in a forum), and then allows you to live edit and collaborate.

This is simply a Facebook + Twitter live stream thrown in with Google Reader format to create Buzz. It's really more Reader than anything else. It's just now all available in your mailbox with a commenting feature like Facebook that alerts you everytime a new comment is there (annoying).

It would have taken him about 3 mouse clicks to hid Buzz. How many mouse clicks/keystrokes did it take him to go on this rant?

Uhhh, Settings->Chat->Only allow people that I've explicitly approved to chat with me and see when I'm online????

You could've found this in the Settings menu in the time it took you to type that post.

From the documentation: "Gmail automatically determines which contacts you'll be able to talk to without having to invite each other -- if you don't want Gmail to automatically enable chat privileges with your contacts, follow these steps:"
 
Pros:
No farmville.
Slightly harder to use, so it'll keep the absolute morons out.
Photo-albums can be full sized photos - integrated with Picasa - not shrunken down versions of photos like in FB.
No mafia wars
Did I mention no farmville?
None of those other 100 applications that have to be blocked on a daily basis?
 
If you block them the first time why are you blocking them again?

There seems to be 4 or 5 new applications every day on top of the common ones.

I don't have a Blogger account iirc, but it wanted to link Picasa and Google Reader.
It was fairly simple to remove them.

In the "Welcome to Buzz" section of the window, find this link:
"view connected sites."

Click on Edit to the right of the site, and then click Remove
