Didn't Microsoft get a smaller space at E3 than Nintendo did? I feel like they are trying to downplay E3.

Edit: Yup, Nintendo's floor space is three times as big and in the main part right next to Sony:

That's probably because Microsoft doesn't have a ton of games to show us. They don't need demo space. At least in terms of exclusives. Unless they pull a rabbit out of their hat that is.

Unless Nintendo is changing their approach, they also don't do press conferences prior to the show. So, they may want a bigger booth area as a way to bring people instead of a flashy, more expensive conference.

EDIT:

Of course, they do the Treehouse presentations, but I'm not counting those as much.

This news will be very good as far as enticing third parties too. Nintendo might dominate E3 if they can score one big AAA third party title, something new with VC, and a game in a series we all want.
They really need to get that VC going. It will be HUGE when they do. They at the very least need to have it ready for the holiday season since that's what they have obviously been prepping for all this time.

I have a feeling that the switch will be the big winner of this holiday season. Especially if there's a holiday bundle
I'm guessing if the sales continue to surge that there won't be a bundle. Besides. What would they pack in? There's only one game people would buy this hardware for so I don't see the financial sense in giving it away for free.

Maybe they will learn from their mistake and end up packing in 1-2 Switch.

Yup, they sold 1.5 million the first two weeks:

They will blow past their goal if they have the supply.

Eh, I don't think so. It is getting poor reviews plus they have said before they didn't want it to be the pack-in because it would define what people think about the console (aka its just a party screw off console like the Wii was).

My guess is you get a download code for Mario Kart 8 Deluxe for $300 with a Switch around Christmas. That game was already released for the Wii U, so the development costs are split over two platforms. From an accounting standpoint that is probably the best option, plus its the best game for showing off both Nintendo IP and the whole local multiplayer aspect.

Depending on what happens over the next few months I can totally see retailers offering bundles with some sort of cost savings for buying the package. Something like a game plus pro controller would be appealing depending on the game or games packed in. The only situations where this is viable in my mind though is if there are many disappointing releases between now and xmas and sales suffer or sales just drop off and there is stock sitting on shelves.

I think poofy hit the nail on the head. The MK port shouldn't have cost too much, so they'll just include that with a download code (no manufacturing costs) for $300. Two joycons = multiplayer out of the box. Plenty of parents will just buy their kids the bundle, or the bundle and zelda or mario.

It's only an old game to someone if they had the Wii U version. Seeing as how most people don't have a Wii U at all I think it will be new to most consumers.

Plus we are talking about the pack in game. The game that will move consoles in the Holiday season is Mario Odyssey but Nintendo isn't going to give that game away this year no matter what Switch sales do.

I'm not convinced that if sales hurt that Mario kart is gonna make a dent. It's an old game now

The wii u sold 14 million units, so TONS of people haven't played a HD MK. Also, it helps convince people like me who have a wii u to buy the switch because I don't have to repurchase it.

I still cannot find a reason to buy a switch. I wish they would have just built a new home console that is more powerful like the One or PS4.

I would love to own the switch just because it is a bit better than the Wii U but I do not play games outside of my home, or in bed, or anywhere other than the living room or game room. No need for a handheld. I bet there are a lot of people like me too. I wouldn't be caught dead playing video games in public on a handheld. I'm a f&^$(!& adult.

If you don't love Zelda there's no reason for anyone to buy a Switch yet.

What Nintendo should really do to move consoles around the holiday season is pack in Mario. Maybe even pack it in for a $325 price tag or something. That right there will sell a SHITLOAD of consoles and has the nostalgia feel to it, and on top of that, there will already be millions of Switches out in the wild which will pretty much be a guaranteed purchase.

But then I remember - this is Nintendo we're talking about here. No chance in hell Mario is going to be out this holiday season.

The only place I've played the Switch in public was on a flight. I played it about 2 hours on each flight. I didn't feel weird at all. In general though that is probably the only place I'll ever play it in public. I don't take public transportation often or anything so the situation doesn't really come up much to do so.

Same and I may also bring mine along on road trips to Orlando when I am not driving.

Then why play games at all? If somehow being an adult is contrary to playing games.

I've actually been playing my Switch A LOT in my living room.

And the thing is, that means in portable mode, because my dock is downstairs in my home theater. I've played it probably 90% portable mode and 10% docked since I've owned it. Prior to owning it, I LOL'd at the portable mode and said I would never use it.

But damn, it's just so damn convenient especially when I have a toddler I have to watch around the house. And how fast the thing goes into/out of sleep mode is faster than unlocking your phone, so you can put it down in the blink of an eye and pick it right back up in the same time frame.
