x2. It's ALL a mind game. You WILL have to adjust your way of thinking, but just remember, when Basic is over, it's all over.

Best of luck to you. Thanks for serving our country.

Man, you'll love MCRD.

You have the Navy chicks, the ocean harbor view, even an airport where you get to yell at the airplanes every now and then. On the weekends, you'll get to go to mass where hot chicks run around all day (if you don't have a religion, make sure you pick one that gives the most time off. Mormon is one of them ;)). It's like a vacation.

When you move up north to Camp Pendleton, it's like going camping. Lovely rolling hills to frolic, ocean breeze, fantastic sun sets... just makes you want to cry sometimes.

Oh, where you're going, you don't really need to pack anything at all. Just like Major Payne said, if you need anything, they'd issue them to you.

Good luck, although MCRD San Diego doesn't really make you a Marine. Only Parris Island has that distinction. ;)

As a Multichannel Operator I had distinct experiences with some of the Signals/Intel guys. Mostly we found them to be stuck up donkeys in need of a good ass kicking.
They disliked us also as our equipment was crypto'ed extensively, and used a highly directional antenna and they could not use DF to find our paths. But I don't even know if they use the equipment I used when I was enlisted (AN-MRC-142, and AN-TRC-70)
The only time they could cause us any problems was when the idiot COMMO would give us a clear (unencrypted) VHF channel to optimize our paths.

Ahhhhh the good 'ol days.

Good luck recruit Bramage.
I did 23 years in the Canadian forces (Radio Tech) and loved it.
My own son is joining up at the end of the month, infantry.

I am concerned about your choice of trade. Cryptologic linguist? Will you be able to use these skills to get a job when you get out?

At any rate, let us know when you graduate recruit training.

LoL... as a cryptologic linguist, you bet he'll have MUCH better chance to get a job than most MOS out there.

Why would you choose to server this country when it's run by corporations?

If you were serving TR, TM, GW, or AL I'd support your decision.

Regardless of what I think about this war and this administration, godspeed. My best friend in college was an frogman and he told me many horror stories about his training.

Good luck.
I don't know how old you are, but the best tip I can give you to help you survive boot camp is to be mature in your head. You will endure great physical difficulties, and more than once you will reach what seems to be your physical limit, it is then when your mental maturity/readiness kicks in. When your officers will curse you and put you down no matter how hard you try, you're going to have to keep reminding yourself its just a part of this game.
Seriously when you'll look back at it you'll have a laugh. Hey we all did that (well, some of us..)!

Tonight, a few ATOT'ers and I went out for a few drinks. To make a long story short, I go to this bar all the time where most of the people know me.

Steve (sm8000) busted out his bagpipes and played his music for about fifteen people that all knew me. People were crying and wishing me luck. sm8000 was playing Amazing Grace. I am not normally an emotional guy but at this point, I lost all control. I started crying. People started coming up and wishing me the best of luck in the Corps while sm8000 continued playing. At then end, he got a huge standing ovation.

Steve, I just want to say that regardless of what happens, dude, I love you, the people at North Main Tavern will not forget you. Dude, you made my night.

Thank you.
