You are not alone

Same here. Bought 150 DVD+Rs for about $40 from an officemax sale and my Lite-On wouldn't write to them. Said "illegal disc". So I got a new burner.

They are Dynex RITEKF1, btw.

Why does it edit that out?

Put Meritline dot stores where all those ***s are.

I ordered some of these earlier this week.

Why not just use the http://meritline.com domain istead?

I started there but as soon as you add something to the cart, it takes you via the Yahoo site. I guess Yahoo does their eCommerce side of things.

Memorex and TDK work good for me as well as verbatum. Memorex I have used the most of. Got some verbatim cheap during the christmas sales but have not used many yet.

I find some with the code: DVD-R47ZZSB8
http://www.rima.com/Merchant2/merchant....duct_Code=1736-100&Category_Code=DMRTY
or
******/taiyo-yuden-8x-dvd-r-silver-thermal.html

And I also see some labeled: DVD-R47ZZ600SK-8
http://store.yahoo.com/meritline/taiyo-yuden-8x-dvd-r-media-silver-lacquer.html

Are they just TY has a Good line and a Best line? Or is everything TY makes better than the rest?

Looks like the same thing.
As mentioned by someone else earlier, there's a LOT of fake TY media floating around.
I don't know how credible that site is as I've never ordered TY media from there.

Rima sells genuine TY media. I can atest to that.

Just tested the Samsung 8x DVD+R discs that I had, they came out as being made by Optodisc, but the ID number doesn't match anything I can find, so they're either 2nd class or 4th class. I have noticed that DVD movies I burn on them skip sometimes on players, when the disc itself has no scratches on it.

So I picked up some Verbatim discs, very cheap too ($15 for 25 on sale), and they're Mitsubishi made, 1st class all the way, 16x DVD+R. Much nicer :)
