I used to play a lot of golf, but it was usually corporate or charity tournament events. It consisted of arriving at the club at 11 - 11:30am to check in and have a burger before a shoot gun start at 1:00pm (all groups start at the same time, on different holes). Because of the number of foursomes on the course, it was often 6:30 or 7:00 before we finished, then there would be a buffet dinner, followed by prize handouts and sometimes a charity auction. Often we wouldn't get out of there before midnight.
After 6 or 7 of these events each summer for ten years I got so tired of 12 - 13 hour events that I simply stopped going. I still donate to the charity by sponsoring a hole or providing a prize, I just don't attend.
Now when I do play golf, I want it to be with a few friends and have the fun over 4-5 hours.
