haha what is that, Augusta National?

You wish Augusta was that cheap. Heck, you couldn't join that club if you wanted too.

Augusta is actually MUCH cheaper than that. But, you're right, you cannot join unless invited.

i'm an avid golfer, i play a round of 18 holes like almost every saturday. in rochester, ny, there are A LOT of golf courses around. of course, rochester is a golf town, about five courses are members of PGA/LPGA. i would want to play a round at one of them but hell, the fees are like at least $200.

i found a cheap one, $20 for 18 holes plus $12 for a cart. $32 / 2 people = $16. :D:D

Actually, Augusta National is VERY inexpensive compared to most private clubs. They make so much money on the Masters that there's no need to charge large initiations or high dues.

If golf is too expensive for you, simple solution: Don't play. There are already too many whiny children on the courses, it would be an improvement to have one less.

It depends on how much they put into maintaining the course. I live in Central Florida, golf course mecca. We get plenty of rain with overflowing lakes and soft soil with no rocks or difficult hills so of course its going to be cheaper to upkeep plush green fairways and smooth greens. Being a student in collge I can walk a course after 2pm anywhere in my county for 18 bucks - I have more than a dozen courses to choose from. Ive gone to a few of them so many times that I get free range balls and if I'm late (as in getting off work or school with a little more than an hour of daylight left) I can get 6-9 holes in for free. The most I'm willing to pay in the summer is 30 bucks and that's for the semi-private courses with a cart and a decent tee time. The only exception to that is that $50 I pay for charity tournaments.

Think of it as a precious commodity. Water in the desert will cost you more than water not in the desert.

in eastern ma, i pay anywhere from $27 to $50. i require a cart so normally, i shell out 50-100 a round including snacks, smokes and beverages. not bad considering a seat alone at a pats game is 100 plus parking and tailgating. and i'm not allowed to play :p

I blame Tiger Woods and Abraham Lincoln.

I live on the south side of Chicago, we have a pretty cheap course down here. Its Hyde Park Golf Course, or something like that.

Check out Brighton Dale in Kansasville, WI
Kenosha County Public Courses
The 2 18 hole courses are very challenging and the price is right.

Antioch also has a tolerable course with really cheap rates. Fox Lake isn't too bad (still 18 holes). Spring Valley is a shithole, so avoid that like the plague.

If you want to head to the SW 'burbs, check out Cog Hill. Courses #1 and #3 are priced well, and course #2 (Ravines) is one of the best values in the area. It is the sister course to Dubsdread (#4) and you can get a round in with a cart for about $65. That is a steal.
Shepherd's Crook in Zion, IL, is by far the best course I've played that charges reasonable green fees ($42 walking).

Preach it brudda. I gave up real golf completely, for disc golf. It is free on most courses, the equipment can all be purchased for less than what a good driver costs, and you always walk it. Has almost all the other attractions of golf, playing through scenic landscapes, water hazards, gotta know what to throw and when, and the short game has to be good or else.

"Augusta National Golf Club has about 300 members at any given time. Fees are reported to range between $250,000 and $500,000. Membership is strictly by invitation; there is no application process." - From Wikipedia... I wouldn't say that is cheap!

The upfront fees for membership usually increases in value, so you can sell it for profit if you want to later down the road.

Wiki has it WAYYYYYYYYYY wrong. There are indeed under 300 members and membership is by invitation only. But the initiation fee is well under $100k and there are some rumors that it's only a token amount. You need to try to understand this: Membership fees and dues are the cost of operating a club, paying the employees, property taxes, upkeep, etc. The TV rights and merchandise for the Masters pays all that and leaves the club millions in profit beyond the day-to-day expenses. Members at Augusta are chosen by their status, NOT for their ability to pay. Augusta National is the one and only club in the country that has no need to bill their members.

Augusta National is not at the top of my list of the private courses that I would like to play. I'd much rather play Cypress Point, Sand Hills, and the National Golf Links of America.

list of courses in Mass.

PDGA has a bunch of good info, so browse the site Link

Pick a good distance driver, mid-range and approacher/putter minimum. I have discs for all conditions and distances. It definitely isn't golf, it is a more relaxed, casual, atmosphere, and there are many cool people that play. So hooking up with a group that can give you good advice and guide you through the course is easy to do.

BTW, My 7yr old likes it, he drives with the side arm style, it turns over and rolls at the end, sometimes he out drives 12-13 yr olds.
