golf courses are too expensive

It's hard to find golf courses in the northern Illinois/southern Wisconsin area that charge less than $50 for green fees. There are even quite a few no-name courses that charge $100+. Then you have a course like the Straits Course at Whistling Straits that charges $300 (plus the cost of a mandatory caddie). Golf seems to be returning to it's roots--a rich man's sport. I blame Tiger Woods and Abraham Lincoln.

The neighborhood golf course in my girl friends neighborhood requires you to pay a one time fee of $80,000 plus green fees every time you play.

Hmm. I'm an avid golfer and in my area you can golf on a saturday morning for under $40. If you go weekdays after 3 its only $18

You just live in the wrong part of the country. We have a place here called Hot Springs Village where I happen to own a piece of land. I pay $32.00 a month to the property owners association and it entitles me to play on any of 8 private courses which are maintained meticulously for approximately $22.00 a round(inclucing a cart). It's got to be the best deal going, certainly around here.

I hate spending $30-$40 for a round of golf, just seems too expensive to me, but I cough it up probably once a year.

I'd buy in to the theory that some ranges are charging higher rates to deter lower class people from playing there.

Most of my rounds here on Maui are $35-$45. There are only four courses I can think of that cost more than $50.

It's your life I guess... Not to say you need to get out and golf... but couch potato? Go hiking or something. Maybe hit a little ball on your walk. :p

In FL right now, we have a program that lets us get golf rates really cheap during the summer.. You pay $50 for the card, though.. www.bigsummergolf.com

Most of this area's golf courses (even country clubs) are open to Big Summer Golf members and they're rarely over $40.. same courses that cost $155 during season..

During season, I just play the county courses, which run around $35-45..

You can find some cheap golf at good courses in Northern IL and Southern WI.

Check out Brighton Dale in Kansasville, WI
Kenosha County Public Courses
The 2 18 hole courses are very challenging and the price is right.

Antioch also has a tolerable course with really cheap rates. Fox Lake isn't too bad (still 18 holes). Spring Valley is a shithole, so avoid that like the plague.

If you want to head to the SW 'burbs, check out Cog Hill. Courses #1 and #3 are priced well, and course #2 (Ravines) is one of the best values in the area. It is the sister course to Dubsdread (#4) and you can get a round in with a cart for about $65. That is a steal.

A lot of courses around here (Daytona) have great rates IF you don't mind playing
in the summer heat with a tee time past 12:00.

You wish Augusta was that cheap. Heck, you couldn't join that club if you wanted too.
