Haven't played sports since middle school, and I'm in more shape than most of my friends. All depends on your work ethic, diet, and metabolism.

try getting a heart monitor and doing some activity at your target heart rate for 25-30 minutes. Initially it'll probably be very easy to elevate your heart rate to this, but after a few weeks it'll get harder and harder to get your heart to pump that high.

Most dispatchers gain weight when they work, due to sitting for 8 hours a day. I've actually lost ~20 pounds in the first four months that I've been here, due to the fact that I regularly walk to and from work (it's about 2.2 miles)... :)

I also haven't had a cigarette in 3 months. :D

EDIT: <--- 26 YO, 6'4, 220 pounds.

Well, I tried to run today. I couldnt go more than 7 minutes without stopping to walk. So all in all, I ran 20 minutes, walked 10. Now I feel like crap. thighs hurt, hammies are sore, and I feel noxious (sp?)

so what can I do to over come these physical side effects of exercising?

Start out with three cycles of running for five minutes and the walking for five minutes

Dude, that's weaker.
<--- 6'2" ~285 can run 7 miles and I just use weights.

WEAK!

<<<< 7'6 ~ 370 can run 125 miles and i do NOTHING!
Seriously?

Of course. I once did 300 Miles and I am 8'10

weak.

I once ran across the atlantic ocean in 3 days non stop drinking only ocean water and eating dolphins for food.

Yeah, well I ran into the centre of the Earth. And while I was there, I played poker with Satan. Beat that.
Umm...I did. I was the one that won that poker game, remember?!

Yeah, by fixing the deck! I can't believe Satan didn't torture your soul forever for that one.

Idiot! I just burrowed to the center of the earth with my toenail and sacrificed seven wombats to the God of Poker who told my that the deck was threaded with the sacred nose hairs of Tom Cruise thereby protecting the perpetrator from any harm.

Honestly, if you want to do cardio, I'm a big fan of interval cardio just to keep things from getting boring. I have a pretty big dislike of running, it just bores the hell out of me, so I'll run a mile, bike for 15 mins, jump rope/other jumping exercises for 15 mins, and go from there. Small time periods, more exercises, keeps things interesting.
