Doesn't anyone else feel like they are wasting time when running or jogging?

I cant stop thinking about what other things I could be doing when I go out for a jog it's this feeling that never goes away and always breaks my will to go more often

I find that it's your choices in elementary school that determines whether you will be fit. I was always on the baseball, basketball, crosscountry, swim team and track team throught middle school.

Trying to run for 30 minutes for someone who is just starting (or re-starting) a jogging/running program is unrealistic and will quite possibly lead to injury.

http://www.runnersworld.com/article/0,7...ss6-238-261--678-5-1X2X4X5X6-6,00.html - Follow that program and over the course of 10 weeks you can get to continuous running for that duration. If it's not challenging enough, you can move ahead in the schedule. Be cautious about upping your mileage/duration too much in a small amount of time, though. You are almost guaranteed to suffer from knee or shin problems that will just delay your progression.

OP, you're probably running too fast. Walking for now in the middle is fine.

I don't know about that advice...I've heard that the "no pain, no gain" mentality can get you injured pretty quick. Walking is just as beneficial as running, as far as I know.

For the record, walking =/= running.

What do you expect if you haven't been running? It takes time. You're likely going to be sore when you exercise any muscle that's been dormant for quite a while.

Keep it up, but try not to push yourself and cause injury.

Keep it up man, even if you have to walk, you'll get better at it.

Also get good shoes, a good nights rest, and eat right.

It takes time. I started running every day this past week. I can run for about 20 minutes straight (by the end of the week) before having to walk. Just keep at it and it will get better.

Yeah, well I ran into the centre of the Earth. And while I was there, I played poker with Satan. Beat that.

I know what you mean - I went to the gym last week after not doing any physical exercise since October (no gym and bad weather) and I crapped out after 40minutes. 3 hour bike rides or strenuous 7hr hikes used to be no problem during the summer. :/

You want the truth, DainBramaged? Well, I'll give you the truth!

I can run one-eighth of a mile at full blast.
At the quarter-mile mark, my heart feels like a balloon that's about to burst.
That's the point where I stop, drink a can of Pepsi and smoke 2 cigarettes in succession.
:(

Kick it up a notch. Go an extra mile. Set a new time.

If you are ABLE to think about other things, your not pushing your limits IMO.

When I row, I'll be perfectly lucid for the first 15 min or so. But after 20 I start to get in the zone, and after 30 It's just me, my muscles, and the display saying how long I've been rowing. I literally am NOT ABLE to think about anything else. My body just doesn't have the physical endurance to do so. This is also a reason why exercise is a good stress reliever.

Bingo.

ONce you can run 2-3 miles without stopping, that is acceptable. Then you can go into 200M sprint intervals, those things are crazy hard if you do enough of them.
