If only they'd allow SMTP.

your ISP would be the best choice for that one.

I like the fact that if change ISPs there is no need to change email addys at all the online merchants I use.

And, if I ever get spammed to the point of frustration I can drop an email address and never look back.

BTW-I also have two domains

So what's the advantage of having a gmail account with the 1 GB of storage and all the search and sort features if you're just going to download it to Outlook Express?

You still get to have the l337 @gmail.com address I guess.

Yes, in May 2005 hotmail will discontinue pop for anybody not paying.

they'll probably append html code to the end (or sides) of messages so that we still have the "luxury" of being greeted with ads. as for the "conversation" format, i'm guessing that you'll lose that feature when moving to your regular email client. (....do i hear google working up an email client somewhere?!?!?!)

So how are they gonna make money? Where do the ads go?

They'll make money by scouring into your emails and do some AI and use the information gleaned to sell targetted ads. They will charge premium for targetted ads.

They want your freaking emails! I tell ya, Google is

From the Gmail help section:

POP, or Post Office Protocol, lets you download messages from Gmail's servers onto your computer so you can access your mail with a program like Microsoft Outlook Express or Netscape Mail, even when you aren?t connected to the Internet.

* Over the next several weeks, we are introducing POP access to all of our users. To make sure the feature is fully stable, we're giving users access to POP in phases. Once POP access is available to you, a 'New Features!' link appears at the top of your account, along with a 'Forwarding and POP' tab on your 'Settings' page.

finally I can use it with mailwasher to check everything at once... if only Yahoo! did that again for free...

You mean offer POP3 access? Just use YPOPs!. I've been using it since Yahoo! dropped free POP3 and it works flawlessly.
