General Motors Co. is seeking to dismiss a lawsuit over a suspension problem on more than 400,000 Chevrolet Impalas from the 2007 and 2008 model years, saying it should not be responsible for repairs because the flaw predated its bankruptcy.

The lawsuit, filed on June 29 by Donna Trusky of Blakely, Penn., contended that her Impala suffered from faulty rear spindle rods, causing her rear tires to wear out after just 6,000 miles.

so they make shitty cars. Know it. but since they filled for bankruptcy they can say fuck you we aren't fixing it! hahaha!

oh man thats just wrong. hopefully they are forced to fix it

Break up GM, we don't need no stinking corporations. We can just walk to work, distances between cities and stuff would eventually adjust to accommodate.
It's not that they are evil, they are just looking to make a buck or save a buck anyway they can. That's the nature of the beast, sometimes that's good or at least acceptable and other times it's not as in this case.

Corporations act like people. Some are honest and will honor their work or product, some always look for a way out. You attribute your distrust of corporations to the fact that they are corporations, when really you just dislike the way some people act.

bankruptcy is such bullshit, how you're able to own anything after filing for it is beyond me.

Maybe she just needed an alignment due to bumpy Democratic potholes in Chicago.

What a horrible and totally irresponsible response, trying to blame labor for the management decisions of General Motors. Labor just assembles the car, the design is up to management. If the design is screwed up, sometimes its simply impossible to fix the design flaws with any simple fix.

Please piasabird retract your post. And own up to the fact, you are just totally wrong wrong and wrong. Not to mention dumb and dumber. Add in clueless and you win the trifectaas perhaps the worst post you have ever made.

That's bankruptcy law for you, but I vaguely recall that the GM Chapter 11 plan specifically provided that the new GM would honor consumer warranties granted by the old GM. The reasoning was to keep purchaser confidence in GM. I could be wrong though, or even more likely, the article could be summarizing the lawsuit wrong. This could be yet another class action where the plaintiffs lawyers seek to get millions of fees for themselves while the class members get pennies at best.

EDIT: reread the article-this is a class action based upon supposed unwritten warranties, not the express warranties (in the owners manual-which the new GM DID assume.

And just think, in 20 years GM will probably go bankrupt again just like Chrysler and we'll get to bail them out all over again. You can't even not buy their products to avoid the stink because the government will just use your tax money to prop them up anyway.

Maybe you can change the Constitution to your liking.

Bankruptcy happens when you owe more than you can payback/own. My question is, why should you be left with anything if you make that mistake? Seems like a loophole for the rich.

Isn't it a loophole for anyone?

Like I said above, you people are missing the point. GM IS HONORING ITS WARRANTIES, including the warranties made by the old GM.

This is a class action lawsuit which claims Old GM allegedly made unwritten warranties which for some reason New GM should be obligated to pay.

Cliffs: Typical plaintiff's class action bullshit wrapped up in patriotic teabag outrage.

What's your deal? Are you some kind of semi-literate immigrant laborer that assembles cars?

Well do a better job and your company wouldn't need to declare bankruptcy and fight lawsuits regarding their shitty cars.

Nebor asks, "What's your deal? Are you some kind of semi-literate immigrant laborer that assembles cars?"

Matter of fact no, as you prove you are even dumber than piasabird.

If the design is defective it won't work on the roads of Peoria, Paris, Chicago, or where ever.

But thanks for asking Nebor.

This is why I'm not buying American for at least another 5 years. Chevy Cruze is very tempting but only long term reliability ratings would make me consider these cars again.

Those of you complaining that GM cars are shit, take it to the Garage where you will get the proper smackdown you deserve. This is P&N.

You find similar stories of car companies elsewhere trying to spare the expense of a recall via legal shenanigans. This is par for the course in the auto industry as a whole. The "government motors" dig at GM is a cheap shot at best. At what exactly? Perhaps its the government, unions, workers, environmental regulations or whatever the teabagger-appointment boogeyman of the week is.

If they weren't honoring their warranties, with or without bankruptcy, then you'd have something to complain about. It looks like they still are.
