Glue traps - your thoughts?

Yea, used one once to catch spiders crawling through the hole for the water heater and cought a mouse (i put a anti-mouse noise maker next to the hole after that) and damn, that was a bad way to go. But they work.

Absolutely terrible devices, what's worse is that animals not intended to be trapped are often victims. I think some stores refuse to sell them and I hope it becomes a trend.

They're horrible, to me they should be illegal. Retarded anyone would sell something to cause this much pain to an animal. Not only that but lot of accidental deaths can happen, like the wrong type of animal going in.

I say go for live capture traps or if you really want to kill them at least use the snap ones. Or get let the cat get them. At least it will die a natural death by food chain and be food for the cat.

I bought a package of traditional mouse traps, and they managed to eat the peanut butter off of it four times without setting the trap off.

I bought glue traps and caught both of them with hours. Most glue traps have a pain killer in them now, but I still killed them so they wouldn't starve to death.

Glue traps are nasty, but needed.

Nothing wrong with glue traps if you don't stick them in places birds will get stuck in them. The only difference with them and the standard mouse trap is that you have to do the work yourself and check it frequently.

Well I had a mouse in the house and tried using the old snap traps for about a week and didn't catch a thing. One night with the glue traps and I caught the mouse.

I do have to agree that they should be banned, or at least regulated so that only people with a clue (eg. trained pest controllers) can only use them. Perhaps the traps themselves aren't as much of a problem as the way people use them? It's quite lame people are advocating them TBH.

They don't. Anaesthetic puts them to sleep, and they're certainly NOT asleep when you find them. I think it's just another way for them to sell this product because people stopped buying them once they found out what they did. I think I recall one of the producers saying that they use eugenol in some of them, but only to make the glue more stickier, not for pain.

Try several types of spring loaded mouse traps, I find the old fashion wooden ones to be the worst.

I'm all for dealing with pests, but I agree this is the worst way to do it. There are plenty of other types of things you can use.

I don't really like the glue traps since they aren't reusable, and are a real shitty way for a mouse to die IMO
as others have said, it all depends on how humane you want to be.
I've used non-lethal, glue traps, and the standard spring loaded trap.

I go with the spring loaded ones now since they:
a) kill the mouse quickly
b) are very effective catching mice
and
c) are reusable

when I was a kid my dad has this plexiglass box that had a one way door on it to catch mice. We'd just take the mouse outside and flip the trap over (the door would open up if it was upside down) to let the mice go outside. I haven't been able to find anywhere though. It wasn't as effective as the spring loaded mouse trap, but you don't have to kill the mouse if you with these.

Plague is pretty rare these days, you'd be incredibly unlucky to even get it from a mouse. And you'd only die from the plague if you don't seek medical treatment, assuming you get it anyway. Perhaps if someone was stupid enough not to see a doctor and get the appropriate drugs for it, then maybe they will die.

Anyway, I think you're overreacting here. I don't care if it's a mouse, it doesn't deserve to die that way.

That's probably the ideal thing to do. Unless you have like a full blown infestation but if it's like 1-2 mice I'id just catch them alive then drive them 10 miles away from town and drop em off.

I always liked using the glue traps, especially when the mice started invading my kitchen. The bastards were eating my Pop Tarts and shitting in my pantry... they deserved to suffer

I always did a "flip and stomp" approach on the glue traps after catching a mouse on them to put them out of their misery... I'm cruel, but not THAT cruel!
