Beyond the engineer joke, this is entirely a matter of reference.

If I'm filling something up, and it gets to half way, it's "half full." If I'm draining something, and it gets to half way, it's "half empty."

So if I'm filling the glass, it's "half full." If I'm drinking out of it, it's "half empty."

If it's a beer, it's "time to order another round."

It depends on what has happened to the liquid in the glass.

If the glass was filled to the top and then you drank half...the glass is half empty.

If the glass was filled halfway...then it is half full.

In a purely technical sense, the answer is no. Because present time does not exist (except on a wide referrence basis), it is always past or future, then the glass either WAS half-full or half-empty or WILL BE half-full or half-empty

Agreed.

"Not finished" is also acceptable.

Depends if it was last filled or last drank. Whichever way the liquid was going is what it is half of...

Neither. At that instant in time, the glass is merely twice as large as it needs to be. If the glass could adapt, we wouldn't be having this discussion. Blame the glass.

It's half empty, probably because there's a hole in the bottom of the piece of sh*t glass. But I guess that's ok, since the cup is probably filled with poison. Why did they have to use a cup?
