Another site similar to Thinkgeek.com is Kleargear...

Also, check out his desk. Does he keep nice pens, notebooks, etc? Any art at all? Does he drink a particular kind of soda, or eat certain foods? Kids, married?

Every SS I've been in we've had to practically stalk our giftee, mostly because we were always given people we didn't know well on purpose.

Gift certificates are safe, but can be seen as lame and lazy. BUT, depending on what likes/dislikes you observe, you can get him one to a particular webstore or specialty store....

Good luck - I think it's pretty cool that you asked for assistance with this - it's one of those little things that people do every year, but can mean alot if you put a decent amount of effort into it...

weezergirl. :)

Any chance you can get info on if he has a Xbox 360 or Nintendo Wii or Sony PlayStation 3? For the Xbox 360, you could get him the wireless headset or any number of little accessories like that. Even just a neat faceplate. The other consoles must have comparable things.

Gerber or Leatherma Multi-tool

If a man doesn't want one it is because he has one already or just doesn't know...

How about a gift card to BB or something. I know it's lame, but that really is the best idea, then he can buy what he wants.

I know I'm picky about my tshirts so that may be hard to shop for. I like them to fit a certain way.

The xbox or other console add ons a few posts up is a good idea too.

Given that you seem to care for him, a lunch/coffee/diner(*) with you would be a more than appreciated gift.

(could be > $35)

What part of her message about her saying that this is the guy she knows the least gives you the impression that she seems "to care for him"?

Bah, just get him the present that everyone wants more than any other item.

Cold.

Hard.

Cash.

It is a waste of money to pay $35 for something that he'll value at $5 (if at all). Give him $35 in cash and he'll get things that he values at $35. Cold hard cash is the best possible gift for anyone. The recipient gets exactly what he/she wants, there are no transaction fees, no transaction terms, no returns necessary, no problems.

I wouldn't spend even 10 seconds thinking about a nice gift for someone I don't know/care about. I'ld just give my 20 bucks and move on.

thanks for the suggestions...the airplane looks cool!! i have no idea if he's into that though, is that generally what an avg guy likes?

i also remember overhearing him say he wants the wii so he prolly likes gaming. i'm unsure which system he may have already. perhaps i can ask around!

and i don't really want to give him cash/gift card because this is a work thing and it's something we're all doing for fun...not because we have to. i'd prefer to put some thought in it. it's ok if he doesnt like it as long as i tried!

ps. i just remember something else he likes...he likes musicals!!! but i'm pretty sure he's not gay...haha. i could be wrong though hmm.

Don't be a douche that gives a GC or money or something. It's an office Secret Santa... get him some cool little toy or knick knack that he can have fun with. You don't have to know them to find something like that.

Any guy that has even a mild sense of entertainment would think something like that rocks.

Even something like one of those ZipZaps that were big a few years ago would still probably be cool.

In all seriousness, look up "tyvek wallet". Some seriously cool designs and ways to express geekdom without wearing it on your sleeve.

What ever you give him, wrap it up and don't let him open it until you finish the Bj.
