Anyhow, I finished Boone's mission and sent him back to wherever he came from. I'd say I'm only about 40% done the game so it's time for me to start earning my own headshots. I noticed that without Boone I manage to sneak up on enemies better, he never came across as the loud, clumsy type so maybe it was just the fact that he'd always fire first.

Oddly enough, I'm going to enjoy exploring instead of _chasing after him_. Even when I told him to be passive, he would kill everything in a 3 mile radius. It kind of made sense, given his personality though.

Since I'm getting rid of Boone, I'm looking to work with ED-E
and upgrade his armor so that he can hopefully take a lot more damage out on the field
. I'd like to get Veronica also, but I'm weary about having to install a mod just to get her to function properly. Are there any other very passive support characters like ED-E? I'd love to have another person who just mules gear and hides in the corner when the shooting starts.

This mod's a lot of fun:

http://www.newvegasnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=36395

Or you could always spawn another ed-e...

In the console, one at a time:

prid #####
moveto player

If you've gotten ED-E's armor upgrade, ##### = 1732d0
If you've gotten ED-E's weapon upgrade, ##### = 1732d1
If you've gotten neither upgrade, ##### = 1732cf

If nothing (visible) happens, add enable between the two above codes.

Interesting that you guys are having less crashes since last Patch. Now I can't Play for 10 minutes before it Crashes. :$

Ed-E no longer does anything except place itself between an Enemy and me, the BoS Chick shows up once in awhile during a Firefight, then afterwards walks backwards until she runs into some object, although she's still walking backwards.

I regret buying this game so early, should have waited another Month or so.
I understand your feelings. Even now my Fallout 3 is crashing randomly when I'm traveling manually in the overmap. I quicksave very, VERY often.

Wow - so areas and casinos near/within New Vegas are damn near empty. And the quests are bland/terrible compared to the rest of the game [though gaining rep to obtain another companion was ok]. I suspect after 64 hours I'm near the end as I have 2 active quests and I'm about ready to go talk to Mr House.

Game finished after about 70 hours (explored about half of the locations, but I think I covered most of the important ones). Great game overall... Some tough decisions, too. I'd definitely rate it above Fallout 3, although that's to be expected.

The game crashed a few times when I got to the strip. Turned down AA, and the crashing mostly stopped - it seems the more the game is stressed the more crash-prone it becomes.

I'm with Cass and Rex. Rex is moderately aggressive, but Cass seems pretty mild.

Anyone else enjoying the ambient music as much as I am?

I especially enjoy the solo cello coming out of nowhere from time to time; It really gives a great feel to the desolation of the desert.

I hardly turn the radio on at all.

Yeah, I really like the music as well.

This was probably the most disappointing thing to me in the game.
Seeing the New Vegas skyline from Goodsprings made it a target, a destination to reach for.
Getting to Freeside and New Vegas and finding it empty was a letdown.

I would agree...

Though,

It'll fill up pretty quickly with mods, which I am looking forward to...

Agreed. I played Fallout 3 with the radio on most of the time... Kind of regret that now, as the ambient music adds a lot to the atmosphere of several areas.

Funny, my favorite part of Fallout 3 was wandering around in the dark sewers with crazy ghouls running at me and shooting them in the head all while listening to "Let's Go Sunning" and "Mighty Might Man."

In fact, my biggest disappointment with F:NV is that the music kinda sucks. If I could important the tunes from Fallout 3 into it, I'd be in heaven. 🙂

You can, if you own FO3... Here's a mod at the NEXUS that allows you to put any songs you want in the game:

Boo, enclave radio ftw! :awe:

Well..that was an interesting ending - to see [through dialogue and photos] the outcome of my choices. I can definitely see why they don't want you to continue on with the game - too many variables depending upon what choices you made [though it would be cool].

Ah well - I've seen the various endings on Youtube - way too many for me to want to replay from the start... 🙂

Awesome game!

YES. I notice it every time it happens, definitely a nice touch and very somber.

I did the same thing. My game was crashing all the time, and after I turned down detail a little bit it became very stable. Now I'm just trying to avoid quest bugs.

For the record - this game has caused me to optimize, clean, and update my system in every possible way imaginable. I have updated codecs, drivers, and sparkling clean registry all due to this game. I can't imagine my rig being more optimized as it is now.

The whole point of my post is that the game is temperamental on best days. Sometimes I get zero crashes after hours upon hours of gaming. Other times I get 15 minutes and CTD forcing a restart. Just something about New Vegas.

And I've tried roughly 17 different suggestions for CTD - all helping but not solving completely the random CTD's. I have a suspicion it's just a classic memory leak problem that was apparent in Fallout 3.

Yeah, I think the Havoc engine is just busted so deep into the code that Bethesda doesn't want to make the effort or expend the resources the fix it, hopefully because they're moving onto a newer engine (Rage maybe?).

I think Fallout 3 crashed on me a lot more than New Vegas has, same situation tho, sometimes I will play for 4-5 hours at a stretch without a problem, and sometimes I'll get 10-15 minutes in and it'll drop me to the desktop with an illegal operation. I've just gotten really used to quicksaving frequently, so I don't lose a lot of time.

Still have zero regrets paying out $50 on the pre-order for this game. Like all the Fallout games, it's given me dozens of hours of enjoyment.

LOL, in my game, Rex runs away every time I engage an enemy. I had to leave him in the Hotel. Oh well, I ran with upgraded ED-E and Veronica in my game. She was an utter beat with the unarmed attacks w/ Power Armor on.

Love the game, but the invisible ED-E is driving me nuts. I tried all the tricks (going to the vault, console commands, others) to get him to be visible, no dice. I really want to get rid of him so I can complete the Rex quest, but at this point I am clueless on how to do so. Anyone know?

Yeah I've locked in (according to Steam) 170 hours in New Vegas. I'm on my 3rd run through (and probably my last for now).

Just really bummed that the CTD's ruin the experience in general.

It took me a while to really get into NV, but now I'm enjoying it even more than Fallout 3. The bugs/stability issues are annoying, but not to the point where they seriously detract from gameplay.

It's also nice to know that I'll be able to enjoy at least two complete runs through the game. This time around I'm doing good karma/working as a tool of the NCR, next time around I'll probably become buddies with the Legion.

I had a bunch of quest bugs on my first runthrough. I wanted to finish with a NCR-based win for the first time, but I encountered these showstoppers:

Helios: Got everything aligned and powered, but Fantastic disappeared to Hoover Dam, and didn't give any options when he was there. The Follower at Helios didn't respond to my completion. There was nothing I could do.

Brotherhood: This may have been my fault on not triggering something, or maybe it's as far as you can go. (I doubt it) The leader said they were starting their investigation. It never went any further.

NCR: Destroyed the Brotherhood. Held the Dam. No further quests.

To finish the game, I had go along with Yes Man.

I know I did a LOT of things out of the order that would not be intended, such as I never had to deal with a passport. I was able to take the tram from McCarren.
Playing through again. I'll see if the patches fixed any of these bugs, or if they were just random.

I had that problem as well. There are several quests lines where you can play both sides for some period of time, but if you do it in a certain order it will break the quest line eventually.

I've put the game down for the time being. Once I reached New Vegas it became unstable for some reason. Nothing like quest glitches, just random CTDs that have become more frequent.
