Are you satisfied where you're at? Is another (potential) $30 or so after taxes worth the hassle (assuming full time, fractional thereof)?

You make the call. I'm not you. Other than that, negotiating for anything at a retail establishment would make me laugh at you.

The hours where I'm at suck, less than 10 hours a week, maybe if I'm lucky 15. Kinkos would give me 25 to 30 so it's double the hours. Not to mention it's within walking distance. Kinkos is a far better off deal for me. I'm just pissed off at how they've treated this whole situation.

9.50 and you'll be using photoshop? Why's it so low? Is the cost of living there uber cheap?

Because it's not specifically a graphic design job. I will just be making basic business cards fliers and banners. Not like editing photos of models. Stuff you can do in ms paint...bur people don't know how.

They are corporate and they don't care. There are 50 people in line to get that job if you fall through.

I think you answered your own question. Go for it.

Here is what you do:

1. Place recorder on phone.
2. Call Kinkos and demand signing bonus.
3. Upload audio from phone call here so we can all have a good laugh.
4. Win!

Demand $9.51/hr for all the BS they put you through. Then tell them you're the only qualified guy in town so they better meet your demands.

but i want to stick it to the man, and get moar.

i mean they literally dodged me when i tried to call the manager who interviewed asking about the job, and even the regional manager dodged me

LOL, of course you do, but what are you going to tell them? Lie and say you already took a job that pays $9.50/hour and you'll need at least $11 to make it worth your while?

The sad fact is that as a college student, you need cash, and you don't yet have enough job experience to find a better job where you can negotiate terms. If you don't take this job, they'll find someone else who will take it for $9.50.

Of course it sucks being jerked around, but you'll be making more than double what you currently do. Assuming it's a decent store to work at, why not?

I think you might be able to negotiate the shifts you want, but that's about it.

Then just tell them the truth, you already took another job in the time it took for them to get back to you. Are there any other incentives you can offer at this time for me to leave the other job. If they say no, then say you would like to think about it. If they say, ok we can offer this, then win!

Squirrel, I have a serious answer.

Corporate restrictions almost certainly restricts them from giving you any sort of "signing bonus." No offense, but those sort of jobs are a dime a dozen and they know this. They do not care about inconveniencing you. You're obviously young and will learn that most companies, and 99% of all jobs that pay less than $50k year treat you like dirt.

I know this from first hand experience. I work in sales and I'm the highest paid and top selling person on the floor who has trained supervisors and assisted high level management with important workforce decisions, yet they would fire me in a heart beat if I made a fuss. I'm just a workhorse to that company. Companies don't care about you, me, or anyone else these days.

Yeah this is what I already told him I took another which is why we are negotiating my employment and I'm gonna ask what they can do for me... Like if I get any incentives for leaving my current job. I was thinking maybe a raise...or free paycheck or something. I'm not saying I'm the only qualified guy in town, but I'm the only qualified one who Applies

They drug test minimum wage jobs? McDonalds doesn't even check references where I live. They'll pay you $10/hour with no drug test, no references needed, no experience needed, brain optional.

most jobs don't require a brain, so i'm not picking on mcdonalds

I was making $10.50 when I worked part time a year ago. Since tough times, they're now paying $10 for full time.

Wow, I've never worked fast food before, but where I am at, I think they make closer to minimum wage ($7.50 hour).

so you basically got the offer by default? the others were drunk or derelicts or otherwise unemployable, but they found you and another guy qualified. so they chose this other guy, but then he goes and fails the drug test. is that right? so you’re the only one left. correct?

well i see no reason not to ask for a large signing bonus. seems well within reason to me.

It's in line with most shitty jobs in my area.

Ohhhhhh, Canadian dollars. I know the US dollar is about even with the CAD but I'm not sure how that converts to purchasing power.

In the US, McDonalds pays about $7.50 an hour, a manager from what I've seen will make $10 or 11 per hour. Almost an impossible wage to live on.
