Getting a job...4 months after the interview

You make the call. I'm not you. Other than that, negotiating for anything at a retail establishment would make me laugh at you.

The hours where I'm at suck, less than 10 hours a week, maybe if I'm lucky 15. Kinkos would give me 25 to 30 so it's double the hours. Not to mention it's within walking distance. Kinkos is a far better off deal for me. I'm just pissed off at how they've treated this whole situation.

Because it's not specifically a graphic design job. I will just be making basic business cards fliers and banners. Not like editing photos of models. Stuff you can do in ms paint...bur people don't know how.

there were 20 applicants. 18 failed pre-screening. the guy they were gonna hire failed the background and drug tests. leaving me. and the position is closed so no one can apply for it anymore.

LOL, of course you do, but what are you going to tell them? Lie and say you already took a job that pays $9.50/hour and you'll need at least $11 to make it worth your while?

The sad fact is that as a college student, you need cash, and you don't yet have enough job experience to find a better job where you can negotiate terms. If you don't take this job, they'll find someone else who will take it for $9.50.

Of course it sucks being jerked around, but you'll be making more than double what you currently do. Assuming it's a decent store to work at, why not?

I think you might be able to negotiate the shifts you want, but that's about it.

Squirrel, I have a serious answer.

Corporate restrictions almost certainly restricts them from giving you any sort of "signing bonus." No offense, but those sort of jobs are a dime a dozen and they know this. They do not care about inconveniencing you. You're obviously young and will learn that most companies, and 99% of all jobs that pay less than $50k year treat you like dirt.

I know this from first hand experience. I work in sales and I'm the highest paid and top selling person on the floor who has trained supervisors and assisted high level management with important workforce decisions, yet they would fire me in a heart beat if I made a fuss. I'm just a workhorse to that company. Companies don't care about you, me, or anyone else these days.

Yeah this is what I already told him I took another which is why we are negotiating my employment and I'm gonna ask what they can do for me... Like if I get any incentives for leaving my current job. I was thinking maybe a raise...or free paycheck or something. I'm not saying I'm the only qualified guy in town, but I'm the only qualified one who Applies

They drug test minimum wage jobs? McDonalds doesn't even check references where I live. They'll pay you $10/hour with no drug test, no references needed, no experience needed, brain optional.

well i see no reason not to ask for a large signing bonus. seems well within reason to me.

Ohhhhhh, Canadian dollars. I know the US dollar is about even with the CAD but I'm not sure how that converts to purchasing power.

In the US, McDonalds pays about $7.50 an hour, a manager from what I've seen will make $10 or 11 per hour. Almost an impossible wage to live on.
