I'm kind of bitter they are putting me to sleep cause I would love to see the thing live, but I'm hoping I can get a video of it. Especially if they find anything they gota zap with the laser. I could add some tie fighters, some music, make a nice little video out of it.

I'm 25 and it's my first. I don't really care to be honest. I'm kind of excited to see the video.

25 and you need this? Do you have pre-cancerous cells?

It is always an eye-opener when someone around your age has a health issue...it takes away that "immortal" feeling you have from 12-2x

I was 26 when I had mine, they thought I might have Crohns (or worse). Turns out I didn't.

I've had pain and discomfort for about a year, along with other symptoms I've said on here before like chronic nausea, what not. So he thinks it's IBS, so colonoscopy to see wtf it is. I honestly am not worried.

Mine turned out to be IBD caused by a particular amino acid I cannot process properly, namely glutamic acid.

I would keep a food journal and see what days you have the worst discomfort. I went from lying on the cold ground because it hurt so bad that I wanted to die to not having a single issue after I figured out the kinds of foods that were causing it.

Just something to think about.

Protip, buy the flavor of gatorade you hate the most (because you'll fucking hate it more after this) and get like 3 jugs of it to mix with the awful solution they make you drink. Don't skimp on drinking the entire thing either, if they cant get good images then the surgery is a total waste.

Yeah I plan on doing what it says, can I just drink it with water or does it have to be gatorade?

It tastes so bad that you will want to vomit, considering you have to drink like a ridiculous amount. Water will not cut the taste at all.

You mix the huge jug they give you with water to begin with... I basically chased it with gatorade.

You can also pour a light colored crystal light in with the salt mixture. Be warned, it will ruin that flavor of Crystal light for you forever.

I have a really strong stomach so I don't know about that, but I'll take your advice.

The prep work for a Colonoscopy is no joke, your colon has to be completely empty of solid/fecal matter which means 3-days before the exam you ingest strong laxatives like magnesium citrate.

You basically will be in the bathroom non-stop and you will be on a clear liquid diet for those 3-days shitting, pissing and farting like you never have before.

The exam is painless, they make you put on one of those hospital gowns with your ass showing. Then they stick a fiber optic camera on a flexible tube passed through the anus to look for polyps or any signs of cancer. Takes about 15 minutes.

After the exam, you have to sit in a waiting room for 2-hours till the drugs wear off so your legally allowed to drive home or have someone else drive you home.

All men over 35 will have to do this every 5 years, so enjoy.

Three days?????? What???

I've had two of these done and the stuff I had to drink I started the late afternoon before the procedure.

OP, I'm not certain they're going to put you completely out. Both times I was told that was not their intent and they even had the monitor set up so I could view it. Having said that, I nodded off both times and I didn't see a thing.

Yeah, don't know what they gave me, but I've never had anesthesia wear off so fast. I woke up and got dressed.

Here is my take on it (had one a year and a half ago or so):

1. The prep is definitely the worst part. When you have to drink the half-gallon (I've heard some do a full gallon) of stuff in an hour, it's not so much that it tastes BAD, it's just that you have to drink 10 ounces every 10 minutes. That doesn't sound so bad, but after 3 cups or so you really just can't stand the thought of having any more, then you realize you're only half done. Not to mention that by this time you're on the toilet constantly. Again, I didn't find the taste awful but the quantity was too much.

2. You said you wished you were awake. My sister's anesthesia wore off in the middle of hers and she said it was incredibly painful. I slept through mine and felt no discomfort at all after I woke up. Be thankful you're sleeping through it.

As for needing one every 5 years - my doctor said he thinks there will be a non-invasive procedure within 10 years - we'll see. I'm sure you'll still have to clear yourself out first and like I said, that's by far the worst part.

I have a husband over 35 and everything he has been told or I have ever read says symptomless men should have a colonoscopy every 10 years beginning at age 50.
