Beat it yesterday. Last boss was a bit of a pain, but wasn't much compared to a lot of bullets and bombs.

Would RTCW be playable on my rig listed below at say 1024x768? What kind of fps could I expect?

Also, what single upgrade would be recommended to give a decent boost? (single component like CPU, Video Card, etc)

With your current rig, expect FPS less than 40 constantly at 10x7 in 16 and 32 bit mode. The game is a pig, much like the rest of any Quake3 games. If you wanted to get much smoother and faster, get a newer Nvidia based card -- that'll give you the most noticeable boost.

I agree...does that board of yours support agp?...hmmm i guess it does with a radeon huh?yea get a visiontek g3 there the cheapest and by all the reviews i read the best ocers!!

Yup, has an APG capable of 4X. So my CPU running at 733 mhz should be able to power that GF3ti-200 reasonably well?

BTW, what are the specs for RTCW?

I promised my wife I wouldn't buy anything on my Christmas list before Christmas this year . . . . I was an idiot to put this on there.
<chanting>I will not buy it until Christmas, I will not buy it until Christmas, I will not buy it until Christmas . . . . . . </chanting>

Boy... i dont know about the rest of you folks, but I'm telling ya.. I HATE those stupid electrical mutants that shock you no matter how far you are from them. They even shock you when you are ABOVE and BELOW them (when you are in different platform levels). I must say that those things could be the most annoying enemy EVER in a FPS. What were they thinking. Those super soldiers look awesome though.

But i think those enemies along with Boss 2 (which is like a super version of those mutants) really hurt the game in my eyes. I'm starting to get real annoyed at the game due to those things as well as the boring levels later on. Which is too bad, cause I loved the beginning part with the castle and dungeon.. moody and atmospheric. But once you see those mutants I think the game goes downhill fast. The multiplayer seems great though and hopefully there will be tons of levels and mods to try out.

Dude, those electrical guys are easy..
******SPOILER ALERT***********

Just listen for them cuz they're loud as hell and sneak up on 'em. Get it so you can just see the edge of their arm around the corner and 5 shots from the mauser (with scope) takes them out. If they happen to see you , turn and run like a little girl, they eventually stop chasing and repeat the process.

I'll wait till Best Buy has it on sale. I can't remember the last time I bought a game that was more than 39.99 and usually the games are in the 20's.

I agree totally. I used to keep all computer games under $30 but since summer of 2000 I've managed to keep all my game purchases under $35 now by waiting until they go on sale. That includes IWD, BG2, Arcanum and Pool of Radiance. The only one of those titles which I have regretted buying is PORII which I think I'm returning due to it's buggyness (among other things). BTW, it's true that most are offered on sale within the first few weeks too. If you have several stores in the area like I do, one of them will usually come through.

From what I read it looks/sounds like a cool game.

I am going to Hawaii for a 10 week working vacation in early January and need a new game.

Do you think it will run (well) on my notebook (PIII-866M/ATI 16MB mobile Radeon/320MB PC-133/14.1" TFT @ 1024x728)? I have Max Payne running great at 32 bit color and all details at "mid".

This was a killer game, but it was not worth 55 bucks. I thought it was pretty easy myself, and the last boss was a piece of cake. Hint "Electricity gun Zaps all players in vicinity"
