<< What I guess we should just take people who write N-bombs all over people's houses or paint Swastikas all over, we should just treat it as mere vandalism? >>

Yep.

Hate is a thought. Hate crime = thought crime. I thought Democrats were for freedom of speech and thought?

I am considering the conservative idea that legislating morality isn't a good idea may not be a good idea.

Hmmm.......Russ you stated earlier that I knew little about alcoholism. I have buried many of uncles and relatives who literally drank themselves to death. If you treat all crimes as the same without knowing the intent or motive of person you have no way of knowing how to deal with that person. A person who vandalizes a property with spray paint can not be treated as the same as person who paints swatstikas on someone's house. To shoot a hole in some of guys belief that certain legislation is not needed. Here's a very real scenario. You catch two guys in the neighborhood. Both for vandalism. Nbombs are all over someone's house. You don't know which one it is. But one of them was charged with a racially motivated crime and the other was not. So tell me now who do think is more likely to be the culprit? Not all addicts can be treated the same just like not all crimes can be treated the same. If hate crime bills are not needed, then why do we need criminal profiles. The reason is to deter crime and to prevent it when the motive known. You wouldn't send send Hitler to babysit at a Jewish church now would you? If a person is a racist who commits crime should be exposed just like rapists and child molestors. In NJ people are notified in neighborhoods where a sex offender moves to. Well if I never charge person with a crime with the motive behind it I will never know who the enemy is until it may be too late.

Prisons don't exist to rehabilitate, they exist to remove a dangerous element from society. There's no treatment involved.

EngineN9r - Good spin as supplied by the comrades. People are not as critical about his drinking years ago, but his attempts to evade questions about his past drinking and drug use happened this past year. That is a character issue. And he still refuses to respond directly about his drug use history. Sorry, but stating that "I did some things in my youth that I am not proud of" doesn't cut it. Of course, now we know that "youth" to BoyGeorge covers the period up to at least age 30, right? Yep, that's the kind of honesty I expect from the guy who claims the highest moral ground.

First of all, there is no such thing as an "Ex-Alcoholic." If you are an alchoholic, you are one for life, whether you drink or not. Secondly, if you do not go through a 12 step program you are not a recovering alcoholic, but a "dry drunk," the most dangerous kind of alcoholic, someone who can slip over the edge at any time...

Most dry drunks are driven back to the bottle by the stress in their lives. Can't be a more stressful job than President, eh?

My two best friends are recovering alcoholics. I have sat with them in meetings, and helped them through hell. Unless you have gone through the same, you really do not know what it is like. I feel sad for the country, but I feel mostly sad for Bush's wife and family...it will not be a great suprise to see this man blow up and fall apart in front of our very eyes.

I just hope he does not have his finger on the button when that happens.

Do people realize there really isn't a button in the Oval Office labeled "Launch Nuclear Attack"?

It seems obvious, but sometimes I wonder.

Racism is wrong no matter if the person is Black or White. I just don't want them in the white house.

The stupidity of hate crime legislation has already been explained. You call someone racist because they don't agree with you? Sounds like you're the bigot...

Jee thanks. NR9 I didn't know all of us ethinic people and women are stupid sheep.

Yeah, nice way of interpreting my comment. You're one of those people that's always on the lookout for racism so that you can jump up, point your finger and get a pat on the back, eh?

Stupid sheep = anyone who lets the media tell them what to think. Clearly there are many bleeding heart white guilt idiot (phew) white people out there who are like this.

That is a character issue.

Yeah, I know. But the people who support Gore and Clinton have no right bringing up the "character issues" of other candidates, especially when they are minor compared to years of questionable political & business dealings their candidates were and are still being investigated for.

Bober: Don't you recognize a "finger of speech" when you see it? Oh, but that allows you to avoid commenting on the fact that Bush is a dry drunk, doesn't it?

Where am I telling anyone what to think? I'm pointing out blatant hypocrisy. Bush got a DUI 20yrs ago and doesn't want to talk about it so he doesn't have enough character to be President? That would be an understandable argument coming from anyone but a Clinton/Gore supporer, for obvious reasons that I shouldn't have to point out.

NR9 if I am a bigot I am the worse kind. A closet bigot is what I must be. Wrong!!!!!!! My wife is caucasian and I am African American :). We have been together for over 6 yrs and will soon be married for 5. Just had us a beautiful little girl. One of my closest boys is a white dude. My entire life I was raised in home where color or race is a non issue. I don't even hold it against my wife. Its not her fault she's white. lol Just making some humor. But here in NJ its kinda common to see all kinds of couples of different races or ethinic background. We personally have yet to have any problems with bigotry yet. Thank God. So being a bigot I am far from that. But with that said the things I have pointed out are very real issues with Bush and the republican party. I seriously doubt if the roles were reversed that the republicans wouldn't be doing the same thing. So let's quit with holier than thou crap. But I see no one decided to take me to task for Bush and NRA marriage. Or the hand count is prefered over the machine law which his party sponsored and signed into law in his state? Hmmmmm..............

What about Gore and the teacher's union? How can he have the best interests of our education system in mind?

BTW I didn't really mean that bigot thing, I just find that calling liberals bigots seems to offend them the most :)

Geez, what I meant to say is that I'm beginning to agree with conservatives that legislating morality is not a good idea.

<< Classy, EngineNr9 is just a kid who thinks he knows more that he does. He's been sucking off of his parents tit all his life so he hasn't a clue about the real world. Plus he lives in Berkely Ca and that will skew anyones point of view. >>

Ya know Sped, not too long ago did you chided someone because of his insults to other members here. Your hypocracy is astounding and without measure.

<< My point is that both Candidates are so demonized by spin from the opposition to such a degree that the weaker minded individuals start believing all that they hear. >>

.....and instead of you trying to rise above and actually participate in a productive manner you give your own spin to demonize your chosen enemy--anyone that happens to be a Republican--with such insightful and well though out commentary such as:

<< ....Friggin Lush, I wonder how many times Stumbling George got into his car lit out of his mind on Booze and probably cocaine and drove in Texas.....but Curious George is forgiven for putting countless lives of innocent Women and Children in Jeopardy because he'd get bombed to the gourd and go tooling around. >>

...and so on. Ya know, after the beating you took at the PCA forum I was actually thinking that I might have been too hard on you, a little too judgemental. I can see that, in fact, my assessment of your character was spot on.

I'll say this for ya Red, what you lack in originality and intelligence, you more than make up for in predictability.

Engine_nr9, interesting article about black racism. you know the NAACP
put out an ad on tv during the 2000 election campaign accusing Bush of not supporting the hate crime bill(whether he does or not is irrelevant here)But, the NAACP is trying to overturn the death sentence of murderers(spelling?)
