I got my VR porn downloaded ready for the Rift...and for the wife to leave the house for a couple minutes. Now If I could talk her into sex while I wear my VR helmet, then I'd be set...but sounds like a recipe for replay argument for her to fall back on for the rest of my life. I'm sure women would love to consider that cheating ...somehow. I'll just use the trusty ol sherpa winter sock and stay on the safe side.

Got my Vive shipping announcement today. Pretty scary considering I ordered it 3 months after the Rift.

Hm, so I finally setup my Vive, but I have two problems...

1) The headset seems to be too small. To be clear about one thing, I have a big head. I can't wear most hats as they're just too small. I end up having to order XXL hats off the Internet because that's all that will fit my head. I can get the headset to fit, but man... it's not pleasant. It pinches the hell out of my glasses, which renders them nearly unusable when wearing the Vive, and I'm not even sure if I'm getting the Vive put on fully because the straps aren't long enough for my head.

2) This is probably an even bigger problem than the first one... my play area seems to be really effed up. I set up the area properly, but for some strange reason, I'm literally below the area. For example, when I get close to a wall, I don't get the chaperone grid to appear in front of me; however, if I look up, I can see the chaperone grid in the room visibly above me. I can't play most games because the action all takes place above me.

EDIT:

So, I figured out some of the problems. For #1, I missed the top head strap, which helped quite a bit. I'm still not sure if I have the thing positioned quite right as the blurriness that people have mentioned is quite apparent. Although, adjusting all of the straps doesn't seem to fix the problem with my glasses, and I can't play all that well without them. I mean... I can still kind of see, but it's a little blurry... blurrier I mean. :p I'm wondering if some of the blurriness is related to how it kind of got smooshed against my face a bit when I first tried to put it on, so the lenses got a bit dirty.

As for #2, I had to rerun the room setup. I'm not sure what messed up before, but once I reran it, it worked fine and increase my play area by a little!

EDIT 2:

One other complaint? The cables going from the PC to the breakout box are way too short. I have my desktop on a standard sized desk (30" tall) and I want to put the box on the floor to allow the cables that go from the box to the Vive to flow better. Unfortunately, they won't reach. Fortunately, I have quite a lot of spare cables lying around!

Oh, and I can't seem to get the Lighthouse auto-off feature to work.

Hopefully you have a USB extension or spare male A to male A cable. Other than that it's trivial to extend.

As for the Lighthouse auto-off, you have to have the Bluetooth driver for the linkbox installed (look under the SteamVR settings page). I have that feature disabled for the moment. They'll turn off, but I have to cycle the power half the time to wake them. The motors have a very high MTBF, so it doesn't bother me until they get it working properly.

So after owning it for a bit, how are you guys liking it? No news on my Oculus order yet. I'm getting to the point of not caring anymore. Summer is getting here and I'm busy with outdoor stuff. I may revisit VR in the winter when things are working better.

Actually, my issue is with the power adapter's cable. It's really short, and I've pretty much got to either move the power strip or run the cable directly over to the breakout box rather than wrapping it around things neatly. Although, I did see a post on the Vive subreddit about how someone extended their box-to-HMD cables and they linked the ones they bought. So, I'm going to buy a 6' version of the power extension cable.

That reminds me... did you do anything in particular to get the HMD's cables to stop wanting to curl up? The cables feel really stiff, and it's causing the most trouble in regard to cable management while walking.

We adore ours. My wife and I have been getting very competitive on Space Pirate Trainer. The Gallery was very fun, if not a bit short. Makes me excited for the rest of the episodes and even more so Obduction.

Some games are a good workout (I've burnt 800 calories in one sitting in Audioshield and SPT according to my fitbit), some games are amazing to look at and relaxing, while others are creatively releasing. Unreal Editor in VR is amazing to use and I can't imagine playing with 3D models on a 2D screen anymore.

In short, worth every penny and we regret none of it. It's just the beginning and is off to an amazing start.

Ah, yeah. Simple barrel extension should do it.

I laid it out so that it just went out to the middle of the room and curved back. After sitting that way overnight it's been fine. Only if I get myself very wrapped up in the likes of SPT do I notice any issue.

Hm, what's weird is that Tilt Brush worked fine when my room was all messed up, but now that my room is fine, Tilt Brush doesn't work. It brings up the logo screen and it acts like it's trying to go through a tutorial, but it just kind of... doesn't? It acts like it's trying to bring up prompts on the controllers, but it only ever brings up one to swipe for the tool menu. After that, I'm kind of just stuck unable to really do anything.

Isn't that name confusing for their other Big Screen mode? Also it sounds just like Desktop VR but I guess this is free as the latter costs $. When I think of Bigscreen I think of the full screen, consolized mode of Steam
I never use it but I think you are talking about Steam Big Picture mode.

Your right but still not a very creative name to separate itself but Big Screen, Big Picture....I think they could do better to differentiate it.

So Minecraft in VR is pretty awesome. Recommended Minecraft settings:

1. You start out in a room watching a TV that is playing Minecraft. Tap the right Gear VR touch button to enter the game.

2. Turn on 3D. It's disabled by default.

3. Turn off VR motion, for left & right, so you have smooth turns.

4. Turn off sticky mining, this lets you mine where you look instead of having it stick where you originally started mining, even if you shift the view a little bit.

5. There might have been some other stuff, but the only other thing I did was turn down the music & turn up the sound effects. Has an interesting new soundtrack...

It's only the second game ever to give me VR sickness :D I have a pretty strong stomach, but with Agent Omega (jetpack game), I was able to make myself queasy by continuously spinning to the right, while looking down to the left, and hitting the turbo button while flying near structures (I make everyone who plays it do that trick...some people get REALLY sick from it). It's not a queasiness I've ever felt before...it's a strong unpleasant sickness in the core of my gut, almost more of a psychological ghost pain than a real nausea, I can't explain it very well (it's nothing like you get from flying IRL or anything).

I got the VR sickness again after playing Minecraft for a few minutes with VR movements turned off (smooth motion for turning instead of the Dreadhalls-style click-turns), but it's too awesome having fluid controls, so it's worth it. Chasing a pig for dinner was hilarious! I really like using Minecraft in VR...the controls are so much better & more intuitive, such as simply using your head to look around. I always felt like the PC version was a little bit clunky, especially aiming where you wanted to build blocks at. Sooooo much better in VR!

I ended up fixing TiltBrush by doing a full-on Delete Local Content rather than an uninstall and reinstall.

I also went and played HoloBall tonight, and that was quite a bit of fun. It's pretty much VR Raquetball, but your opponent is an AI that plays like a pong paddle (i.e. moves on the back wall). The game is currently 40% off, so if you plan on getting a VR headset rather soon and like the premise, you may want to pick it up while it's on sale!
