They can both overclock Durvelle. But out of the box, the 650Ti Boost appears to have the upper hand. 2GB of mem is a plus as well.

The 7850 has 2GB of VRAM as well, but I would give the 650Ti boost the edge in performance as long as they remain stock. If overclocking is an option the 7850 does have much more headroom. The 2 free games with the 7850 gives it the edge as a product IMHO.

The 650Ti boost is a great little card and will force AMD to cut prices. Kudos to Nvidia on a great release. Leaves the 7790 with egg on its face unless AMD drop prices.

So they finally fill the gaps:
7790 come to counter 650TI. => kills 650TI, even with better perf/watt
650TI boost come to counter 7850. => they are on par, 7850 edges out in perf/watt, but needs to lower its price (or maybe not? as it completely destroys 650TI with OC?).

I dont understand NV move, they counter small die's with GK106, and they gpus underdeliver, AMD has to adjust prices now..

Actually parvadomus, I can see that line of though regarding the original 650Ti die size vs 7790 die sizes, but GK106 is 221mm^2 and Pitcairn is 212mm^2. And I think this 650Ti Boost goes head to head with 7850 and completely crushes the smaller die of Bonaire 7790.
Granted, performance is all over the place for both sides this generation and can be quite confusing.

When comparing straight up prices, the gtx650 ti boost is a great value. But if game bundles matter (which to me they certainly can in many instances), I think AMD still has the better overall deal. I'm not into F2P and Far Cry 3, Bioshock, and Tomb Raider all seem like excellent games, so AMD is is nailing it with the bundles.

Yes, there appear to be two versions of 650Ti Boost. The 1GB model for 149.00 MSRP and the 2GB model for 169.00 MSRP.

Cheapest 7850 1GB on newegg is 179.99 with Bioshock and Tom Raider Games bundle. Still good deal but unsure if you'd like to play these games with a 1GB card.
Then they have the 7850 2GB for 183.00 also with the two game bundle. That is a nice deal. Visiontek and XFX offer them I see.
All current GTX 650Ti (original) models carry the $75 in game purchases. That may appeal to some. Not any 650Ti Boost models yet on the Egg.

The only way to consider this card imo is the 1GB for $150 as it's far better than the 7790 @$150 although the 7790 has a game (presuming the price will be forced to drop?). When you get to $170 (probably more in retail) the 2GB 7850 with the game bundle is only $15 away and they are essentially trading blows.

At least it will shake up the market a bit.

But is it truely 2gb of VRAM? or is it 1.5gb with another 512mb on another controller like the GTX 660Ti?

Never consider a 7850 if u dont plan to OC, that card is so artificially crippled by the low clock speeds its begging for users to slide the slider to the max. If not, then at least go for custom models with default 1ghz.

Lol, no way the extra 1GB VRAM is worth $4. The 7850 is EOLd so not sure why it is so expensive there.

So $149/$169, faster than the 2GB 7850, incoming price drops for AMD. This card is going to put a dent in their sub $200 sales though, no way around the fact that Nvidia will sell more products even when slower and more costly - so AMD is clearly in trouble.

I know right? It will probably suck down more juice than even two 7970s at the rate Nvidia's 6 series are just gluttonous when consuming power.
Seriously though, it would be nice to discuss this 650Ti Boost without the AMD crappers.

I was praising the card but looks like you can't take the slightest bit of criticism...

against a Nvidia product.

The power for just the card at the pci-e slot is low. And who complained about the 7790 power use?

Average: Crysis 2 at 1920x1200, Extreme profile, representing a typical gaming power draw. Average of all readings (12 per second) while the benchmark was rendering (no title/loading screen).

Its perf/w is worse than any other Kepler card except for the GTX 680. It's worse than the GTX 650Ti or the GTX 660.

Yeah, who?
I don't know, that was your comment. Guess it was just a bait.
Keep trying.

edit: perf/watt now, /facepalm

Looks like Erenhardt nailed it before editing his post and your previous post was somehow ironic. You're mistaking the HD 7790 for the HD 6790 because the TPU editor forgot to add it to the chart. Here you go, that chart in the HD 7790 review:

power_average.gif

50% more power draw for 33% more performance.

Seems legit.

I didn't mistake anything. Get a life.

You have to imagine your own scenario, and reply to that. That is sure fail.

When averaging our performance results, we see a large 26% improvement over the GTX 650 Ti, which definitely makes the difference between "slow" and very playable at 1080p. Compared to AMD's lineup, we see a performance that is 3% higher than HD 7850 and 22% higher than the just-released HD 7790.

@Notty22 Looks like you can't even translate percentages between figures.

Talk about failures.

It's a quote from the conclusion of a article. English not your first language?

No, it's not.

Some maths:

HD 7790 69W & 78% performance rating
GTX 650Ti Boost 104W & 100% performance rating

The HD 7790 is 22% slower while drawing 33% less power.
The GTX 650Ti Boost is 33% faster while drawing 50% more power.

You're welcome.

I expect similar updated 78xx cards to the 7790 to come out soon. All AMD needs to do is update the bios with higher clock speeds and sell the cards for the same price. Hardly in trouble.
