Geforce FX Benchmarks

I dont think this has been posted yet, if so, Im sorry.

http://www.tecchannel.de/hardware/1109/

This appears to be benchmarks for the GF FX, in german, but you can still read the graphs well. Is the NDA up in Germany now?

Edit: Also interesting that the review seems to be using the 42.63 drivers, when 42.70 drivers are available. Guess the 42.63s shipped with the card?

Nice improvement over the Ti4600.

Marginal (in some cases) over the 9700 pro.

Looks like ATI would be happy to release the R350 when the NV30 arrives. Rumors say March for the r350, right?

The benches start here: GeForceFX 5800 Ultra vs. ATi Radeon 9700 PRO

3DMark2001 SE PRO @ 1024x768x32:
FX scores 15923
R300 scores 15505

3DMark2001 SE PRO @ 1280x1024x32:
FX scores 13817
R300 scores 13004

FX has 29 more FPS in QIII without FSAA
R300 has 16 more FPS in QIII with 4x FSAA
R300 has 1 more FPS in UT2003 Botmatch @ 1290x960
FX has .4 more FPS in UT2003 Botmatch @ 1600x1200
FX has 4.3 more FPS in Serious Sam 2 @ 1600x1200

If Anand's benches are similar, the FX is DOA! The prices in Europe? 650 Euro ($695) for the FX and 400 Euro ($428) for the 9700 PRO.

Nice, the NDA must be lifted in Germany then which means tomorrow is the big day. 🙂

All the buzz on the net has been that Monday will be the day benchmarks get released. The NvNews forums are going ape about it!

Im curious to see if any of the non ultra GF FXs will be reviewed, because that should be competing with the 9700 pricewise.

hmmm... does look that great for Nvidia.... 3-4 month old tech from ATi is keeping up with their nweest offering....

also: Clock frequency: At 3D-Anwendungen the chip and memory of the GeForce 5800 Ultra with a clock frequency of 500 MHz each work. With 2D-Anwendungen the driver shifts down on 300 MHz.
[babelfish translation]

sounds like heat IS a bit of an issue.... otherwise why would they want to clock down?

/EDIT
From the 3Dmark2001 benchmark:
The two contractors GeForce FX 5800 Ultra and RADEON 9700 pro supply themselves a head on head running. The difference amounts to only knappe 421 points.

my my... look at the 4xAA 8x-Aniso results: GeFX 130; R9700Pro 146!
Despite superior technology, the RADEON 9700 pro strikes the GeForce FX 5800 Ultra. with 4x FSAA and 8-fach-Anisotropic-Filtering.

Not without reason the maps with diagram chips the GeForce FX 5800 Ultra and RADEON 9700 pro must be supplied by additional cable with river. The first is with 75 Watts of capacity under load (3DMark2001 SE pro) lonely because of the point. Only with 21 Watts the competition RADEON 9700 pro less follows.

looks like the 350w powersupply is really necessary now!

I didnt run the article through a translator, but that does sound pretty interesting. Downclocking the card for 2D apps which dont need all that power, much like laptop CPUs. Does the fan slow down when it gets downclocked?

🙁

The expectations at the GeForce FX were high, but the reality sobers disappoints with the GeForce FX 5800 Ultra NVIDIA. To be sure the chip in the total judgment can strike the ATI RADEON 9700 per - however only barely. In some applications, the NVIDIA chip lies even behind

🙁

The GeForce FX controls many technical innovations, that can accelerate the Performance of 3D-Anwendungen. But how already in the past the graphics programming must implement this not until the applications.

Whether a further optimization of the drivers brings another significant Performanceschub, remains to await.

For the slight Performancegewinn, one must grasp deeply into the pocket. First graphic cards with the NVIDIA GeForce FX 5800 Ultra should cost about 650 Euros. ATI-Konkurrenzprodukte with the RADEON 9700 per one receives already for 400 Euros.

Yes, this was covered at E3 when the vacuum fan was introduced. The card and fan will ramp as necessary. Waiting on an Anand or Ace's review and I'm buying 🙂 Just wanted to make sure the clock speeds etc. are the same as the ones available for pre-order. +/- 10% compared to a 9700pro @1280x1024x32 was what I was hoping for and at $400 US its not too much more than I paid for the 9700pro ($315).

this could be bad news, because ATi won't see a reason to lower prices.... and that cheap 9700 that we have been looking forward to will take some more time to appear. 🙁

where is the Industry competition???? Why does one company or the other always have to play catch-up? innovations always happen slower when that is the case....

How does it determine whether or not to ramp? Is it based on temperatures or usage? If its based on usage, there should be more performance to be had by tweaking that portion of the drivers, right?

You hit the nail on the head there, ATI will push back the R350 for awhile now and milk the R300 for a few more bucks. Dammit! 🙁

We probably won't know for sure until tomorrow 🙂

But my guess would be a) 2D clock controlled by drivers b) 3D clock controlled by drivers. c) Fan controlled by temps (from E3 reports).

Nvidia getting owned by ATi.

Hrm, if Nvidia went with 256bit DDR2, then I believe NV30 would have totally wiped the R300 on the floor. But, Nvidia didn't, and only offer little improvement over the R300.

hopefully Nvidia can pump up the competition with a few driver releases huh? as long as it is done cleanly.... out of desperation they might have to resort to stuff like the quake/quack fiasco with the 8500.

Actaeon, DDR2 is very expensive. So is building a card that runs off a 256 bit bus. You put both of those together and you will pay too much (of course thats very subjective in the eyes of some gamers). Down the road it is more likely, as the prices drop, but as of right now, I dont think its cost effective for either ATI or Nvidia.

And I just canceled my Geforce FX order.

Sorry Nvidia but I am not funding a card that should have been out 6 months ago.

Dude! I would have waited for Anand's benches...oh well.

Actually I have not quite canceled yet but was gonna call in a few minutes. 😀 ...I may wait until tomorrow.

Things don't look good for NVIDIA. However, there needs to be more anisotropic filtering and FSAA benchmarks before a performance champion can truly be crowned. NVIDIA might have some interesting features up their sleeves too. I wouldn't doubt NVIDIA's ability to compete.
