Well, the MSI card earned a few reviews from NewEgg customers that made me a little nervous. Now, bear in mind that some reviewers said the very same things about the XFX card. I guess with me, it was all about personal preference and my gut feeling. Maybe some other posters will have more to contribute on this subject.

whats the difference between the xfx at newegg and the one shown for Dell? Is the Dell one just sold at stock speed while the newegg one comes OCed?

Some 8800GT's come overclocked directly from the manufacturer. The stock speeds set by nVidia are 600mhz core, 1800mhz memory (900 DDR3). The overclocks from manufacturers vary from 625-700 core and 1850-2000 memory.

The Dell XFX card is stock clocked (600/1800) at $234 and the Dell MSI card is 660/1900 default speeds at $208. Same fan/heatsink setup which is a pretty version of the nVidia reference design.

Like another posted said, you can use Rivatuner or nTune to overclock your card to those speeds and MOST LIKELY you won't have any heat issues assuming you have decent case cooling. You can also use these programs to up your fan speed, should you choose to do a manual overclock. The stock fan speed is usually around 25-30% from 60 degrees celsius and below. Doesn't hurt to bump it all the way up to 75% if you anticipate an all-night Unreal Tournament 3 grind-fest.

When I get my card I will take off the stock cooler, wipe off the junk thermal paste (pad?) and put on some AS5 for a reported 5C drop. Every little bit helps. My Antec 900 case also has a side 120mm fan blowing directly on the video card. I will then proceed to overclock it to 700/2000 and run 3Dmark until I see artifacts or my rig blows up, whichever comes first.

Just look at the model number. Chances are they're the same. Too lazy to look right now.

I worry about lots o' things. MSI 8800 GT for $208? From Dell, not cheapnsleazyrus.com? No rebates, coupons, or PayPal necessary? There must be a catch, right? Well this deal ran out quick last week and I missed it, so it must be good. So upon seeing it available earlier today I jumped all over it with sweaty fingers pounding in the credit card#. But then when the order is locked in, the doubt sets in. Let's see, make sure it says 8800gt, not 8600gt? Check. Has 512MB, yep. So far, so good. But now half a day has gone by and it's still available? Yikes, I'm a sucker! Where did I go wrong?

But hey, the order can always be cancelled later if necessary. I can't see a better deal happening any time soon. Especially if people keep buying them for around $300.

Unless a better price presents itself between now and X-Mas, I am going to stick with the 2 MSI cards I ordered this evening. I missed the Paypal promo and from the sounds of it, I'm glad I did, although the extra green back would have been nice. With FC it came out to ~$210/card and I seriously doubt a similar price will pop up in the next few weeks. I can handle waiting a few weeks to get the card, I've still got a 7950 GX2 kickin' along in the machine. Not to be rude, but some of you folks here need to learn a little patience. If their website said "1-2 weeks," don't automagically think it will change to overnight or 1-2 days! You knew what you were getting into when you ordered, shouldn't be taking it out on them. (Wow, I sound like I work for Dell lol!)

I'm sure Dell will get the supplies. This is probably driving traffic for Christmas. 8800GT for me and a Dell Computer for the kids?

MSI probably will unload most of their stock to Dell, as etailers like Newegg and ZZF usually supply eVGA / BFG / XFX

XFX is probably unloading some too, because eVGA and BFG are preferred cards?

A bunch of 8800GTs are now available at NewEgg.

They don't show in the listing you have to pull up the product description.

woot I ordered one from Dell

When I followed the link and tried to order, I kept getting an error page when submitting the order. It worked when I did a search for "Nvidia 8800GT" and added it to the cart that way.

Also they charge more for college students wtf. I logged into my "premier account" and it was I think $234 instead of $208.

Can someone confirm if the MSI card comes with Dirt and Lords of the Ring Online? The reviews I've read have the games included but it's not listed on Dell.

Heh! I did the very same thing. :) ($207? This can't be the same 8800GT everyone else is gladly paying $300 for..)

PriceGougersR-Us.com has the 8800GT in stock? I heard they are having another fake one-day sale next week. 99% off - 129% off = 30% Over Retail er......Off Sale!

Okay Michael Dell, not to be rude, but you DON'T know what you're getting if you order, because even if their website said 1-2 weeks, don't think that Dell won't feel bad about shipping it to you in four months.

sadly, i'm fairly certain that it won't come with the games. if so, it would have been listed in the software section on the product page.

Well, after seeing so many of you decide to get in on this deal, I bit as well.

I hope that all is well and everyone gets one for Christmas, Chanukah (Hanukkah), Kwanzaa, etc.

Was that still in effect Yesterday? 11/26 ?

It was for most of 11/26, yes. Apparently the cut off was at some point on Monday but I don't know when. I ordered my XFX @ $252 at 10:00 MST and it was still showing that the 20% was available. PP and Dell are both finicky though on giving me a strait answer that I WILL receive it, I'm still a bit worried but I'm sticking it out.

If I get the "rebate" this $250 card cost me $200 so it was tough to beat that deal. You could of got the MSI for about $176 as well.

I tried to get the FC too and followed the instructions in that one thread, but so far no dice (ordered yesterday). Sure hope it shows up soon since this will be my first time ever trying to use Fat Cash.

Holy hey...! Do you really need the 8800 GT? Wouldn't a 7950 GX2 be just as powerful if not more powerful?

Nopers. The MSI wasn't available during the short time frame of the questionable PP promotion.

Don't count your chickens before they hatch there. I was looking at the MSI last Friday before the Paypal promotion was announced, put it in my cart but decided not to buy it. When I logged into my cart on Monday, which is when the Paypal promotion was active, the MSI for $207.99 was STILL IN MY CART. Furthermore, it let me checkout and complete the order.

When Paypal gives me my 20% back (and I can assure you I will make sure that they do) My MSI will be $176 shipped after tax. Schwing!

Oh, wow! That would be a kick-arse deal then. Slick move on your part! What are you doing here on the Anandtech Hot Deals forums? That's a Fatwallet type of maneuver!

Looks like someone hasn't read any of the 4 million 8800GT reviews that's out on the same internet that you use to go to anandtech.com's forums.

Short answer: 8800GT > 7950GX2.
