GeForce 8800GT Best Prices / In-Stock Listing

I went to Best Buy and got a BFG Tech for 279.99 and used the 12% coupon someone mentioned in another thread I believe. I prefer the BFG brand to others due to personal experience, I was surprised that Newegg doesn't even have those listed on their site at all. Theirs just started to come in though for Best Buy, I got it just in time as it came off the truck.
 
Zyfer, yeah I got the BFG from BB today too (with a 10% off coupon, it came to like $252 + tax) I was pleasantly surprised to find that it was the BFG 8800GT OC model.

I can sort of semi-confirm what QuixoticOne said about the fan speeds. On "automatic" control, it never budges off of 29%. I ran Crysis at about 83C under load. When I used the Ntune fan control thingy to bump it up to 85% speed, I was running Crysis at 67C.

I'd recommend downloading Ntune from Nvidia and checking the temps and fan speeds.
 
Newegg sent me an auto notify...it arrived in my yahoomail roughly 3 hours after it was apparently sent. If they ever had any, they were all gone again by then!

I bought an XFX from that xpcgear.com...we'll see how that goes. Amazon.com's preorder said ETA of jan 14th, 2008!

You can check stock at your local store for Best Buy. The BB near me has the BFG in stock.

My 8800GT SC is still waiting to be shipped from ncixus.com. My order stages all completed on Thursday last week (including product availability) but the shipping stage has not cleared.

Now today my order is no longer in my "Pending" queue when I check order tracking but is listed under "Order History." Maybe it's been shipped? Crossing my fingers but not holding my breath....

Yea, same here.. it never went past the verified CC check (when I last visited on thursday) but now the order tracking shows nothing. Probably just fixing up their inventory as they said last week that they may get a shipment from evga today. Cross your fingers and hold on to your rabbits foot!
 
Anybody know how to set the fan speeds reliably for the 8800GT in RivaTuner? I can set 1 speed for all 3 (2D, low 3D, high 3D), because the settings are grayed out for anything other than high 3D. Low level fan control also seems horked up (maybe b/c RivaTuner has not released an updated version, but still...). Do I need to use nTune? I want to set my speeds at something like 25/50/75.
 
Just got my new 10/12% coupon in the mail from Best Buy and they have the 8800GT in stock at my local BB... but sadly, I can't use the coupon until the 16th.

To answer my own question, also hopefully to somebody else's benefit, I found out that one can set up the fans in RivaTuner to go to different levels depending on the temperature of the GPU. The process is fairly convoluted, but it seems to do the trick, search the web for tutorials. After some testing, I set up 3 zones - below 55C (at 50%), between 55C and 65C (at 75%), and over 65C (at 100%). I figured there is no reason to go below 50%, might as well have the fan do the work. Seems to actually idle at 55C, so it's right at the threshold between 2 zones (although changing the thresholds/fan speeds makes the idle temp creep toward the threshold anyway, so I guess I'll leave it as is, where it bounces between 50% and 75%).

One thing that got me worried was that when I was playing with the fan speeds and running some benchmarks to make the temp go higher, I got artifacts in 3D03, and a hard lockup afterwards. The fan was probably at 25% or 50% at that time, and last temp I saw was 67C, but the problem would have been caused by memory anyway, I suppose. I ran several 3D03 and 3D05 tests before and after, and only the one produced artifacts. Wonder if it's because of the OC memory - maybe my modules cannot handle that OC speed. I'll test them out with the nVidia OC test, maybe this will give me an answer...
 
Call Best Buy to check availability. It showed unavailable in all stores in NYC but when I called and had them go through their system, they located some.
