These things staying cool enough with the single-slot fan? All of the 8800GTS cards had the dual-slot fan...

Unless I am missing something, 8800GTS and 8800GT are made with different semiconductor technologies, other than having different designs.
So, one being hot is not an indication of the other .....

No you're right, but people are saying that the 8800GT gets pretty hot, so I'm just wondering if there's any reason to hold out for a new design with a dual-slot fan...I heard that one reason they didn't immediately use the dual-slot design was because they wanted to encourage dual-card setups (as evidenced further by the low prices of these cards). Either way, no one seems to be complaining too much so I guess it's no big deal!

I don't know of a card worth its salt that doesn't get pretty hot. Fact is, if you want high end cards you usually gotta do something about heat. Some high end cards get pretty hot even with dual-slot fans, so unless their cards are frying because of it, I'd say it's probably not a big worry. If you're going SLI you'll probably want to either replace the fans with something better anyway and/or install a cooler for the gpu area, if you're doing air cooling.

checked out the frys in concord (sf bay area) they didnt have a single 8800GT to be found. had a guy check up top above video cards in the backstock area. no go. 🙁

I finally got an aswer from outpost.com/frys.com about the
EVGA model number of the card they have / had the preorders for.

Based on this information I guess it's able to have the maximum
EVGA "Lifetime" Warranty, assuming it's able to be registered within 30
days of purchase (hopefully the way they indicate the 'Purchase Date'
of the pre-ordered item will show the date of shipment, not the pre-order date).

EVGA doesn't have the "-FR" suffix product specifications listed on its
web site, though this is the closest match:

Manufacturers item #512-P3-N801-FR

I just got off the phone with Fry's about the card I pre-ordered Monday morning. The rep I spoke with said they expect a shipment in tomorrow and that the cards should ship out on Monday the 5th.

fry's site can't find the product 🙁

I preordered when it's on their web site.

I ordered the EVGA superclocked version for $250 on the 30th at NCIXUS but of course the demand was too much so I got some email regarding the delay due to heavy demand. They not only raised to the price to 300 on the card (but not my order...still 250 for me!) but the card isn't even on the website anymore! Whats up with that? I guess they are not taking orders for it at all until everyone who did order gets the card?

I didn't know about that 30 day thing regarding the EVGA warranty so I'll give ncixus a week to ship or else I'll just cancel. I'm too busy now to care so they've got till friday or its cancelling time.

My BFG order from Frys.com shipped last night. I'm getting the special "ice" version. 😉

Order Date: OCT 29, 2007 11:39 PM
Shipped 5434319 BFG GeForice 8800GT OC Video Card (512MB DDR3, PCI-E 2.0, DX10, OpenGL 2.0) 1 $239.99

Stopped off at Fry's earlier this week and the 8800 GT's were all sold out. I'm hoping frys.com puts them up for sale again on their website this week.

meh im gonna hold out until after the holiday season... these ye olde 7800GT OC SLI should hold me until the new year, when i get a better idea as to what ATI is offering and by then this card should be much more affordable (hopefully around $240-260).
