RacerX, if you and others can squeeze more performance out of your 6800's that is great. I'm all for it.
I would also be very interested in seeing somebody try this RivaTuner softmod on an ASUS V9999. Thats a vanilla 6800 (12 pipe) with 256MB GDDR3. I'd like to see before and after the softmod results.
Anyone have one of these? They are kind of expensive and most people will just get the GT for the same money, but I'm sure there are a few out there who will get it regardless just to have something unique.

RacerX - :cookie: for you.

The articles I've read about this softmod have said that there's no guarantee of getting your NU back if the mod doesn't work due to damaged pipelines.

If this is true, I'd recommend only the very wealthy try the mod.

Far Cry benchmarks in progress, I'll post a separate thread on them soon.

here's some news about this:

http://www.guru3d.com/news.php#1828

the second article, guru3d updates fast so it may not be on the same page in a day or two.

quote from article:

Second (and the most interesting), I've found the way to detect and enable/disable active vertex units on NV40 boards. The most surprising fact is that _ALL_ 6800 non-Ultra boards I've seen have at least one disabled (bad?) vertex processor too, so just 5 or less of them are active instead of 6 in Ultra models. Like quads, vertex processors can be also disabled at both software and hardware levels, so RT will help you to unlock them only in the first case. Currently we're collecting 6800GT statistics to understand if these processors are full 6800U analogues or they also have ripped configuration due to disabled vertex processors. Also, we hope that NVIDIA will clarify specs for 6800NU/6800LE/6800GT boards, because currently we see the boards with different amount of disabled vertex units sold as regular 6800 model.

That is why I'd like to warn everybody going to buy non-Ultra 6800. We've already detected $350+ OEM Leadtek 6800 boards in Russia, which have 2 disabled quads and 2 disabled vertex processors. So if you're going to buy such board, we strictly recommend you to wait for new RT release and to verify the board before (or immediately after) purchasing. Otherwise you may get a regular 6800LE for a fabulous price.

Stay tuned.

I just finished some tests with the new RT Beta and so far I have been able to confirm his findings partly. A 12-pipe 6800 NU for example reports 5 Vertex Processors where it should have 6. Through a hack I'm trying to enable it and see if there is a noticeable difference in geometry limited tests. My finding show no noticeable results different in either graphics corruption or performance.

FYI - the beta is not for the public available.

this looks promising

Will a ASUS 6800 V9999 be able to take advantage of the mod, I can see the bar in RIVATUNER but I can click on it, its all grayed out. When will the patch be avalible?

Im thinking about gettin the card, but on my current, 5900, I cant select pipelines, is this only for the 6800?

I have TWO 6800GTs, and I can disable pipes. My friend's 6800NU also allows it.

Interesting threads, I have some comments/suggestions:

- Will this Riva softmod ever be publicly (free) available?
- If you try this soft mod and it doesn't work right, can you roll back safely? This is a huge concern.
- Does this void the warranty?
- Does this impact in any way 'normal' Forceware drivers?

- It's out already. Text
- Yes. It's recommended that after you softmod you do a bunch of heavy, gfx intense things. (3dmark05, doom3, farcry)
- Nope.
- No, in fact it enables things to optomize the drivers. You can use any of the most recent Forceware drivers with them.

Some other interesting facts, the mod is nearly a guaranteed success in some way. Either one pipe will work, one vertex processor will work, or both of them will. It's rare (but like in all cases, does happen) that neither will work... which in that case the artifacts you will receive are too much to handle so you just reverse it.

I have an eVGA 6800 and it softmodded perfectly with no artifacting anywhere. For more information you may want to go check out threads on Guru3D or here.

Lol, that sounds simple enough. You mean like if you select '16 pipes' from the drop down menu, then you just go back to '12 pipes'?

I wonder if this softmod is taking off...and is stable...

Do some research. Everyone who owns a 6800 (and knows about it) has done it, more or less.

Well i unlocked the 4 locked pipelines. and the 5vertex changed it to 6. doom3 is more stable. better synthetic benchie scores (3dmarks)

The new version is not that simple, but it is easy enough. And, it worked for me! :)

This thing is incredible. I just upgraded from an old Ti4200 to a PNY Verto 6800, and the increases in 3DMark03 were incredible. I'd scraped out a 1467 with the Ti4200 (on a P4 2.4 with 1 gig ram), with the 6th vertex shader enabled on the 6800 (forgot to bench prior to unlocking), it improved to a 6568 (most of the difference most likely being the new card), then when I unlocked the other 4 pipelines, it jumped to a 9192! That's a noticeable difference in performance with all the card's hardware fully enabled. Not an artifact in sight either. Of course, that's still with the stock clock speeds :)
