what cellphone video camera videotapes for more than half a minute at most? you'd need at LEAST a few minutes to pull that placement of the phone off and then get out. Seems VERY botched if you ask me. That combined with the fact that they are suing best buy instead of the guy who actually did this makes me think the tape is doctored. You can see she has trouble keeping her story up when she talks and when she seems to make sense she is reading a paper (most recent video).

I see gloria allred in the video, you know the crack pot lawyer who finds everyway to make it giant case of some female being taken advantage of.

Guy is screwed anyhow, even with evidence that it was all made up. She'll run a big media campaign against him and best buy.

I wonder what cell phone has a blinking light. at least all the video camera phoens I have don't have any flashing red light.

in law there is something called respondat superiory (sp?) where the employee serves as best buy's agent because he is employed by them. As silly as it may seem, people do win cases against a company for something stupid an employee did. People trust that employers are going to hire reasonable, prudent people and not horny virgins...especially if they are going to people's home (plus the company is the one with money). In this case, if they do have the footage of him setting up the phone camera, then it is pretty much a slam dunk case for the plaitiffs and best buy will probably settle with them.

I call shens all over this crap.

Seems to me the "sissssta" don't want to be on welfare the usual way of having too many kids, so this is the new retirement plan.

First of all, how the heck did the guy get into the bathroom while she's showering, unless the door is wide open. If that's the case, then it's probably planned or premeditated.

Secondly, just too many holes and the girls in the vid appears too hungry for the press, I seriously don't see "victim" coming out any of them.

That peepsquad guy was setup. BB will settle out of court, and hurray for the American Ambulance Chasing and Frivolous Law Suit Association for making this possible.

bingo

From the LA Times:

Suspicious, Vasquez left the bathroom to tell her sister Kelly and when she returned, the phone was gone. Kelly then found the phone in her bedroom. Believing the phone was programmed to record her as well, she removed its memory chip and she and Vasquez took it to a Verizon store to see what was on it.

"You could see him on the video setting it up," Vasquez said. "I was shocked."

The sisters called their stepfather, who reported Chi to police, and he was arrested at their house.

These stories make no sense... Alright, so she saw him setting up the phone to record video, then knowing this she took a shower in front of it anyhow...?

Usually this will lead to steamy 3some actions with the 2 sistas, according to most pron movie plot. Too bad reality is a little harsh for this geek guy.

What?! She saw the camera on the sink AFTER she finished showering.
According to the suit, Chi came to the family's home last month for a scheduled computer service appointment. After starting to work, he asked to use the bathroom and was shown to one shared by Vasquez and her 13-year-old sister, Kelly Rocha, the lawsuit said.

Vasquez later showered in the same bathroom. When she stepped out of the stall, she noticed a cellphone propped up on her cluttered sink, the suit said. The phone was covered in a leather case; a small camera with a red, blinking light was sticking out, she said.

The funniest part in all this is everyone here pointing out all the flaws in the story - which mainly stem from their own lack of thinking before typing. Oh, and also assuming that two sentence summaries are the complete story.

What a train wreck this thread is. Why is everybody so confused? The article is bad, but not that bad... I understood it.

Has the police INVESTIGATED the video yet?
Who has posession of the chip?

This may be simply bad publicity but as of now without the video it's really just heresay.
Case might end up getting tossed out.

I think people are so confused because of all the speculation. Yeah. I guess the article is bad in that regard, it leaves way too much open for interpretation.

Normally I disagree with a lawsuit such as this (a victim of drunk driving suing the bar or a gunshot vic suing the gun maker)

But in this case, IF there is evidence that the repair tech planted the phone for malicious reasons then yes BB is liable. This one of the pitfalls of having a business where you go into people homes to fix things.

Here is where I am a bit suspicious:

1- Does the tech know these women? Is this a set up by all parties involved to get money? (i.e. the finger in the chili incident)
2- Did the girls snag his phone that was lying around and do this themselves to get money?

even if the video evidence discounts #2 by showing that the tech did indeed set the phone up, #1 is still a viable option to consider. Have to wait and see what the investigation turns up.

I'm suprised nobody has mentioned how ridiculous it is to sue Best Buy. Geek Squad, yes, but not Best Buy. If I recommend my dentist to a female, and the dentist yanks the wrong tooth, am I somehow responsible? Actually, that's a bad example, because that screwup has something to do with his job as a dentist. This is more like if the dentist grabs her butt after he's through fixing her teeth.

If your gonna file a lawsuit, you go after the person with the deepest pockets. In this case, that happens to be Best Buy. The bad publicity alone might be enough to get them to settle.

Also, I would love to see this kids face when he got caught. Especially once he found out the "dumb" girls he was trying to tape were smart enough to take out his memory card and keep it. Heads up play.

Well, my guess is, as mentioned, the lawyer's suing Best Buy in the hopes of obtaining a settlement. That being said, with Geek Squad being housed in the actual Best Buy stores, and with the employee (of BB) having apparently provided a brochure for the in-house Geek Squad services, I'd say Best Buy is somewhat responsible for ensuring that these people are decent enough not to tape their customers taking a shower.
How the fvck is best buy responsible when there's no ****** way you can tell if someone is a peeper?

I thought the same thing. Especially this part:

"A woman and her mother Wednesday sued Best Buy Stores after a technician from a computer company allegedly recommended by an employee of the electronics firm videotaped the woman taking a shower."

hey, if the Gov. can do it thumbs up for the peeps. lol

I would like to enact a law that only if the person being spied on is a hot chick then it is legal.

Well, BB will settle out of court to shut it up, and the guy will probably get off on a loop hole since the sisters stole his property. 2 wrongs don't make a right.

He would have lost a lot more than his "property" if this girl had a brother instead of a sister. :p

- M4H

Especially in Pomona, the brother would have either been a drug dealer and gangster. I hate this town.

I don't think the Geek Squad should be at fault unless the guy had any prior arrests or charges filed for possible harassment that should've made the Geek Squad not allow this guy to go into homes for pure liability issues. Essentially, this should just be pointed at the technician himself.

Hello McFly... he works at Geek Squad. He doesn't have anything to sue for. You don't sue poor people. You sue giant corporations and hope they will settle to avoid any further embarrassment. Duh...

/sarcasm... kind of.

id rather stay in a room with some important small stuff that could easily disappear into a tool case than go "about my business". it has nothing to do with watching what the tech was doing. of course, i wouldnt be calling a geek squad in the first place, im a tech that goes into other peoples houses and fixes theirs, and i always have either someone at the door or in the room with me. i look fairly scary tho, so that may be why.
