Ah well.

If everyone believed this the world would be a better place.

Some people are content to let other people think what they will, and live their lives. Other people (like me) want to make people think like them, and move into the 21st century, and out of their baptist church, by any means necessary.

Everyone should be "proud" of something IMO SampSon, be it sexuality, heritage, knowledge...etc. 🙂

ahaha that would be a good joke...
not everyone looks down at their bumper before they get in

I'm sure it could get away being on there for a few days, maybe a week for some people

There's also a lot of "allied" stickers out there too.
I don't really care either way, I don't have a car and I rarely pay much attention to what's on them.

I'm the first one to avoid advertising anything about my personal ways.

I also agree that gay or straight is not a choice. You are what you are. I could be wrong, but as far as I can tell, no one taught me to like girls. I just did. I assume it's the same for gay people.

I think the issue is not so much of "pride". You are who you are, why should that inspire pride? I did nothing to be hetero, and being hetero is no great achievement. I am straight, and that is that. What's there to be proud of?

To me, it's more an issue of the fact that being heterosexual is expected and taken for granted. The bumper stickers seem to serve more as a reminder that there are many gay people here, and they should be respected as much as anyone else.

So you need to advertise with signs on your car that say you're gay?
Should black people put stickers on their car that says they're black?

Sure, but I don't think sexuality is something to be proud of. Are you proud that you're a man, or that you have 5 fingers on your left hand?

plus, as a gay person, it can be really hard to meet other gays. a little advertising never hurt
I go to plenty of gay bars and gay hangouts (I'm straight), they have all the advertising they need.

Yes, I understand that to be the underlying principle and is typically the intent of the stickers.

I still laugh and say to myself when I see one on a car in front of me, "oh, congratulations you're gay!"
😀

I honestly don't see why it bothers the OP that much. They're simply advertising a simple fact that far too many people can't accept. If gay people were universally accepted, then there most likely wouldn't be a need to paste a rainbow sticker on your car. At least they have the courage to openly express that they are gay to the world.

Tolerance for gay people won't be achieved by pretending they don't exist, after all. The world needs to realize that most of them are just average folks who happen to have a different sexual preference.

Why do they need to wear their sexual preference like a badge? Yes you're gay good for you, no one cares.

That's the problem I have with *some* gays also. I mean, a rainbow sticker isn't really that bad, but those gay-pride parades full of guys wearing assless pants, bondage, women's clothing, and everything else imaginable in the spectrum of "weird", do nothing to help their cause. They turn people off more than anything. Yes you're gay, now stop shoving it in my face.

:cookie; Let the gays do whatever they want.. It doesn't hurt you in any way.

I guess the stickers don't bother me because I am secure knowing I am stright.. Maybe you secretly want a sticker on your car.

And some people will knock you off your rocker for pushing your ways on them.

Something to think about.

Should black people put stickers on their car that says they're black?

Unfortunately, in today's hypocritical society, it would be OK for a black to have a black pride sticker on his car, but if a white had a white pride sticker on his, he would be labeled a racist/neo-nazi/klansman.

Just let the gay people do what they wan't.

If I didn't know this gay stuff had been around for hundreds of years I'd say: They'll all be gone soon, They cannot reproduce.

This falls under the same clause as those who like to have public displays of affection, regardless of sexual preference. Some people are proud of who they are and want others to know, personally that's a silly attitude to have at least to me, other people don't need to be impressed... It's no one's business but your own.

I think another reason might be so another gay person can find people like themselves without having to go through the awkwardness of flat out asking someone.

Remember years ago when young couples would put "Baby on Board" stickers on their cars? I always thought those signs indicated people with low self-esteem issues. Declaring that you are somehow special because you can conceieve a baby.

Putting a sign on your car declaring a lifestyle choice is lame and immature...and in some situations might lead to violence or vandalism.

Kind of a rant here, I'm gettig sick of seeing the gay pride rainbow stickers on cars.

I'm not a homophobe at all. A few in my family are gay, some of my best friends are gay, it's just part of my reality. So your sexual preference is really a non issue. But touting it like something to be displated is different.

Gay equality is a "complex" issue in many peoples view, but if "they" what to be handled completely equal, why do they wear their sexual preference as a symbol of difference?

For the same reason there's American flags on cars, or (in my case) Irish flags, or I "Where's the beef?" stickers, or Nascar stickers...

cuz they want to...

Just put a big penis on your car.. people will get the point...

Because homosexuality isn't totally accepted, so it's still a campaign for exceptance. Maybe if someone realizes someone they know is gay because of the sticker, it will change their view on things. Maybe it's just to let their prescence be known.

What's up with these "Fallen Police Officer Family Fund" stickers that people put on their cars? So they support the families of officers killed in the line of duty. So what? Why do they need to wear it on their car?

The difference is -and Im speculating- that a decent amount of the stickers' owners have the stickers to cause problems. Ive known a couple gay people in my short life, and from the ones Ive known they mostly seem to be very pushy about their sexuality, and would make you uncomfortable with how much they bring it up/flaunt it whether they were straight or gay. It seems to be a personality trait of the gay people Ive met atleast.

And I've known a couple of yankees who were arrogant, pricks... YAY!! All Americans must be Arrogant Pricks!!

Let's all make references to the sum of the whole, vs the inviduals...

YAY!!!!!

Hrm. I always thought that was so people would steer clear of them. Kinda like a Drivers Ed Sign on the top of a car. Possible bad driver in the Drivers Ed Car, possibly distracted parent having to deal with a baby. But I guess I didn't think people wanted to show off.

"Baby on Board" stickers were originally a notice for paramedics in case of accident. 😛
(many homes still have a sign by the front door reminding firefighters there are (1/2/3...) pets in the house to rescue; haven't seen a sign for "3" children yet . . . you get the idea)

And why is OT so obsessd with things "gay"?

ignore it if it bothers you. 😉

You might not care, but it's a symbol to show "pride" in what gay people believe in; the same way that a lot of people show their pride in America w/ USA stickers and flags IMO 🙂
You can be proud of the fact that you like to suck d!ck?

I am not proud because I like girls. "Gay pride" is a farce.

They need better terms...
