Because homosexuality isn't totally accepted, so it's still a campaign for exceptance. Maybe if someone realizes someone they know is gay because of the sticker, it will change their view on things. Maybe it's just to let their prescence be known.

What's up with these "Fallen Police Officer Family Fund" stickers that people put on their cars? So they support the families of officers killed in the line of duty. So what? Why do they need to wear it on their car?

The difference is -and Im speculating- that a decent amount of the stickers' owners have the stickers to cause problems. Ive known a couple gay people in my short life, and from the ones Ive known they mostly seem to be very pushy about their sexuality, and would make you uncomfortable with how much they bring it up/flaunt it whether they were straight or gay. It seems to be a personality trait of the gay people Ive met atleast.

And I've known a couple of yankees who were arrogant, pricks... YAY!! All Americans must be Arrogant Pricks!!

Let's all make references to the sum of the whole, vs the inviduals...

YAY!!!!!

True.....I'm all for lumping everyone together and making
statements of fact for every question that is thrown at me
whether I have a clue or not after all this is ATOT and no
one reads this stuff or cares!

YAY!!!!!!! 🙂

All bumper stickers are stupid. I don't care if you're gay. I don't care if your kid made the honor roll. I don't care if your dogma ran over your karma. I can't visualize whirled peas. I don't care if you voted for <politician X>. I definitely don't care if you spend your vacations in Jackson Hole or the Outer Banks. You're an idiot for plastering your car with crap that may or may not screw up the paint when/if you try to remove them.

End of thread. 😛

That way you know that their name isn't really Peter Puffer....that's just what they do.

I support gay marriage and don't mind seeing 2 guys or girls holding hands or kissing in public, but who really gives a damn about each others sexual preference.

I don't know why anybody would care if there was a rainbow sticker on another car...

Shoot, they could make a big banner that says "I'm GAY!!!" and I really couldn't care any less.

Isn't that the Minority Candidate??

😛

Back when I was in the military, we had a high quality 1" label maker. Needless to say, we'd knock out a few "Proud To Be Gay" and "Buttfvcking Is Not A Crime: Gay Pride!" stickers and then adhere them to the license plate frames of the guys that were the most PITA to work with.

Man, that was a riot!

If your posts were as profound as you think they are, they might end threads, but they arn't. 😉

And why is OT so obsessd with things "gay"?

ignore it if it bothers you.
I'm not obsessed, but I drive about 1000 miles per week, so I can't avoid the damned stickers!!!

I am not proud because I like girls. "Gay pride" is a farce.

They need better terms...
Exactly my point. There is nothing to be proud of. It's not like being gay is an accomplishment.

I'm not all up in arms about these stickers, but I see them everywhere and it's getting lame.
I figured a thread about this would be better than a typical ATOT thread about how someone cleaned their hair or bought a new tire for their bike or something.

If people had better things to do than get huffy about a sticker, there wouldn't be threads like this.

I'm not getting huffy, just pointing out something I see on a daily basis.
So put your ego down and go pick on some kiddies, champ. Your opinion is just like your asshole, stinky.

I honestly don't see why it bothers the OP that much. They're simply advertising a simple fact that far too many people can't accept. If gay people were universally accepted, then there most likely wouldn't be a need to paste a rainbow sticker on your car. At least they have the courage to openly express that they are gay to the world.

Tolerance for gay people won't be achieved by pretending they don't exist, after all. The world needs to realize that most of them are just average folks who happen to have a different sexual preference.

Hooray! Look at me, I'm an alcoholic! I wish we alcoholics were universally accepted and didn't have to go around reeking of cheap wine to make people aware! At least we have the courage to openly express that we have a drinking problem to the world!

Tolerance for alcoholics won't be acheived by pretending we don't exist, after all. The world needs to realize that most of us are just average folks who happen to have a different drinking preference.

 Seriously, why don't we get to demand respect for "our courage" when we walk down the street smelling of booze. I mean, it's not like we "choose" to be addicted to alcohol. We were born that way. Maybe with some work, we can deny ourself the pleasure of knocking back a 40oz, but why should we? It's a "lifestyle choice." I just want people to look at me and say "Look at cK, he's half-drunk at 9am. I am so proud of him!"

Fine, and I'm just saying that all bumper stickers are stupid. People proclaim all kinds of stuff that no one else cares about via these damn things. That only the rainbow flag stickers are deemed worthy of mention by you is what's eluding me. Why don't you go pick on someone's honor student, champ.

IMO, in a time where homosexuality is being tossed around as a 'social deviancy' and people are told that being gay is wrong, the gay pride stickers are an attempt to prove that being gay is not shameful and should be socially accepted. It falls along that line.

It doesn't bother me that much. I was talking about it with my ga friends and figured this would be a better topic of discussion than things like, "look what I bought today" or "lets talk about my diet" or "look at my car" or "look at the girl I saw today".

Tolerance for gay people won't be achieved by advertising your sexual preference with bumper stickers.

Read above post. I was having a discussion with my gay friends about this last night. Figured I would see what a large cross section of the internet community has to say.

Yes, all bumper stickers are stupid. If I had a chance to pick on someones honor student I would, I have no shame. Same with bush and kerry stickers. Why would you put a sticker on your brand new bmw?

Heh... same here. I don't mind if people decide to plaster bumper stickers on their cars, I just won't put any on mine.

I don't have a BMW. 🙁

Kind of a rant here, I'm gettig sick of seeing the gay pride rainbow stickers on cars.

Why do they need to wear their sexual preference like a badge? Yes you're gay good for you, no one cares.

I'm not a homophobe at all. A few in my family are gay, some of my best friends are gay, it's just part of my reality. So your sexual preference is really a non issue. But touting it like something to be displated is different.

Gay equality is a "complex" issue in many peoples view, but if "they" what to be handled completely equal, why do they wear their sexual preference as a symbol of difference?

It makes you wonder if your car would be keyed for the 'Proud to be Straight!' bumper sticker.

What. The. Fsck. Are. You. Talking. About?

I'm glad you're arguing for your mother to have the courage to demand respect for the fact that her alcoholism caused you to suffer from a severe case of Fetal Alcohol Syndrome.

Keep up the good work. We'll respect you to have the courage to keep posting this drivel on ATOT.

Why does anyone put bumper stickers on their cars?

People idiotically feel the need to advertise their allegiances. There's this guy at work who has Christian\bodybuilder bumper stickers as well as an Indian flag in his car. That's pretty much how he defines himself and he's pretty proud of it. it's disturbing to me personally that anyone could feel themeselves to be so easily defined.

Bumper stickers and vanity plates are an easy way to spot the loud obnoxious fvckers who have ego issues. IMO.

Ooo... burn to me! Perhaps you lack the inability to debate, or perhaps you are just too dense to understand the topic at hand. I keep forgetting about the large number of 14-year-olds on this board.

Anyway, for those who may be interested, I am comparing alcoholism to homosexuality. I see it as a valid comparison. They are both disorders. Homosexuals claim that it is not a choice; they just feel the way they do. Ditto for alcoholics. You think they *want* to lose thier family and friends and career over booze? They know it's not "natural" to have these cravings. It may be something they are born with, it may be some deep psychological issue. Just like homosexuality, no one really knows yet. We haven't found a "gay" gene, nor a "I like to drink" gene.

Yet, despite the similarities, there is no great 'movement' to accept alcoholism. No "Drunk Pride" parades (heh - except, perhaps for Mardi Gras). No one is demanding that "alcoholics" be praised for their courage to drink. No alcoholics are put on the cover of magazines for their braveness in "coming out."

My point is, if that's the way you live, fine. Enjoy it. Be gay. Be drunk. Good for you! Just don't expect *me* to be proud for you. Why do you need my acceptance or approval?

 That's how I feel about a lot of stuff. 😛 In all honesty, it would be nice to have a heterosexual sticker on my truck. I dunno... Do us hetero's have a universal badge for our sexuality? I can't exactly put a picture of a half-burried penis into... well, you know... on the back of my truck.

This is a stupid comparison. It's patently obvious that alcoholism is not something that should be accepted in a healthy society. Why would you want to be tolerant of something that affects not only the alcoholics but the people around them?

Homosexuality, on the other hand: How does this affect anyone except the people involved? It affects what they do behind closed doors, not their job performance, their ability to drive, or anything else.

The fact that people are intolerant of homosexuality is the problem here. If people were more tolerant, then I'm sure there would be a lot less sightings of rainbow stickers. People wouldn't feel the need to be "open" about something that there's no reason to be ashamed of in the first place.
