Then you really are fucked up.D: Thankfully I'm confident you're not speaking for your entire country.

Nothing for me to reply to? OK then.

Yes.

Oh, I forgot how your logic works.
If a woman is about to be raped or killed in her own home it's not OK for her to defend herself?
If lewd individuals flaunt their genitalia around for children to see its OK as well?
I don't know what kind of Philosophy courses you've taken but generally all famous Philosophers followed some kind of moral code/mindset.... you should have failed these courses as you're failing at real life. That is unless your goal is to troll; you're doing a terrific job at that.
Do you really think this is OK for children to watch in any kind of a parade?

I probably wouldn't take my children to it, but having been to both NYC gay pride and New Orleans mardis gras, I wouldn't say that gays have a lock on public displays of hedonism... and your kids can be exposed to worse than both on basic cable in the middle of the afternoon while you're in the kitchen making lunch.

eh. why should people expect a gay pride parade to be representative of an entire community any moreso than St. Patrick's Day is for Irish people or Columbus Day is for Italians? it's just an excuse to party.I think my "problem" with it is how it portrays the gay community to the parts of the public who may be somewhat intellectually challenged. A gay pride parade with excessive amounts of lewd sexual behavior comes off as a community defining characteristic. "Hey look, when gay people come out together, it really shows what kind of deviates they are!" A stigma that is all too wrong, but being extolled by a very vocal minority within the gay community (I'd imagine). Sure, one can simply say, "Well, the public should be intelligent enough to understand that just because some of this flamboyance occurs as part of the parades, it's not indicative of the entire population." Yes, that's most likely true, but I'm guessing many homosexuals would still rather not have the hedonists representing the face of the community.

This is what I am wondering after reading this thread, thanks for mentioning it. Basically what you said, if this is a pride parade, wouldn't you want to put the best possible face on your community? Walking around with a steel strap on does not promote understanding or tolerance exactly. But whatever, to each is own but surely there is a better way to portray the community. On the other hand, maybe their intent is not what I am talking about, and instead they want to send a big fuck you to everyone for the past. *shrugs again*
I think it's more of a fuck you to the intolerant people and a "be your sexuality, be proud of it, show it off" type thing.
Why would anyone think different?
Really? I think religion and intolerance is probably the last thing standing between gay people and acceptance.
people in america only care about religion when it's convenient.
I think it's more that people are happy to be out, some people hide their entire lives and the gay pride parades might make those people come out and be happy with who they are, you can be proud of who you are even if it's innate.
My argument is, that being gay isn't "who" you are (which you can be proud of), but "what" you are.
I agree that being happy to be "out" is fine. But a "gay pride" parade is mostly about being proud to be gay, which I think is at best silly and at worst retarded.
Being gay is a part of who you are, it can be a very large part of who you are, gay people have their own sub culture and society, as a result it is about being proud of being a part of that life / culture.
I disagree. Some gay people have their own "culture", some do not. Are you going to say those that don't participate in the "gay culture" aren't really gay? Because that's what you're saying when you state "gay people have their own sub culture".
Of course I'm not saying that, I'm just saying that being gay can be something to be proud of, having the confidence to say "I don't give a fuck what you think of me, I love being gay" is pride. Saying that you like sex, you like your culture can be something to be proud of, there is absolutely a good reason to be proud of being gay.
