I love how the supporters phrased this too, "giving additional protection for traditional families". Like gay people are going to come in and enforce mandatory gay marriage on good, God-fearing families.

Despite what certain leftwingers think, in the senate or elsewhere, this country has been united in its stance for proper marraige.

Support is certainly overwhelming in many states.

Horay for hate and discrimination.

I see you are so Proud of destroying the U.S.

Hooray for Alabama !!!!!
Finally a state took a stand!!

All you need is a racist police chief, and some dogs and firehoses and it would be a typical Alabama treatment of a civil rights issue.

Its disgusting that people care so much about what other unrelated people do in their private lives.

And despite their Jesusmongering, they've done nothing to prevent gay people from existing or having relationships.

That's not the objective. Everyone is tolerant of gays, but we will not endorse their behavior..

Their "behavior" is the same "behavior" that most normal couples are planning on engaging (no pun intended) in at some point. How awful of them.

you said it yourself......foot in mouth disease...

I've always been fascinated with this nonsense. You've got a large group of people who feel it necessary to force others to operate and live by their belief system. A wise man once said:

Obviously all the "wise men" left Alabama long ago.

I'm not sure I follow...

why can't people mind there own business? If a gay/lesbian people want to get married. It's fine by me because it none of my business what they do in there own personal life. it's there choice what they want todo not mine.

I understand what you are saying. I wouldn't want to endorse anything as disgusting as two adults that love each other devoting their lives to making each other happy and having that bond/union being recognized by the state so that they aren't being discriminated against and qualify for the same benefits as other US citizens are granted under the law..

Maybe in prison. Their way of punishing themselves i guess.

I couldn't tell you. But for some reason, our country is FILLED with nanny-staters who think it's the government's job to enforce their particular views on moral issues...especially when it comes to sex.

That's precisely how the people of Alabama feel.

Not really..."normal" is a synonym for "average".

And what of it?

Anyone not fitting in with your conception of "normal" is worthy of discrimination?

People get married to the person they love in prison? I guess those prison movies really ARE wrong.

I love old Al Franken's take on this issue.

He was talking to Newt Gingrich and ask:

"don?t you want gay people to have the same commitment you had with your first wife???"
"don?t you want Gay people to have the same devotion you had with your second wife?"
"don?t you want Gay people to have the same love you might have with your third wife?"

Did't they use the Bible to support slavery in the 1850s? Kind of the same thing...

When a slave owner strikes a male or female slave with a rod and the slave dies immediately, the owner shall be punished. But if the slave survives a day or two, there is no punishment; for the slave is the owner's property. (Exod. 21:20-21)

Christianity and History
Bible, Race & Slavery

Yep, it is going to be a long time it seems until this curse on humanity called christianity and islam are finally retired into history, regardless some people wake up sooner then others. This is a good sign and progress will march on and leave all these fundamentalists behind sooner or later

Christians and muslims enjoy your little holy war last gasp, shame you both cant take each other down faster or at least wake up and ditch the old hate and fairies in the sky for the sake of humanity.

Maybe if these so called Bible thumpers using Todd33's words from the lion thread actually followed the Bible they would have neither had slaves nor sought to punish them if they had them and they desired to be set free.

They like to use this verse: Note the New American Standard Version

1 Corinthians 7 (King James Version)

20Let every man abide in the same calling wherein he was called.

1 Corinthians 7 (New American Standard Bible)

20(A)Each man must remain in that condition in which he was called.

1 Corinthians 7 (New International Version)

20Each one should remain in the situation which he was in when God called him.

And they conviniently forget this verse

1 Corinthians 7 (King James Version)

21Art thou called being a servant? care not for it: but if thou mayest be made free, use it rather.

1 Corinthians 7 (New American Standard Bible)

21Were you called while a slave? Do not worry about it; but if you are able also to become free, rather do that.

1 Corinthians 7 (New International Version)

21Were you a slave when you were called? Don't let it trouble you?although if you can gain your freedom, do so

Big contradiction there right? Any one with any sort of intellect can see that right?

God cares not for the intellect of man but rather He seeks out the heart of man and as such by leaving it up to interpretation through an imperfect bible our true nature is exposed, if we are full of hate and wickedness we will use it as a weapon against our fellow man such as slavery and bring judgement upon ourselves as opposed to those who follow these words.

Matthew 22

36Master, which is the great commandment in the law?

37Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind.

38This is the first and great commandment.

39And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.

40On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.

Anyone not fitting in with your conception of "normal" is worthy of discrimination?

Ah, I see what JEDIYoda was getting at...and he's wrong on two counts. Even if I meant "normal" as "hetereosexual", that would make no difference to me. Just because I personally don't view a behavior as "normal" doesn't mean I want to enact legislation to ban it. I realize this is a strange idea for a lot of people, but in my mind at least, there is a gap between things I agree with and things I think we should ban.

But that's all academic, because that's in fact NOT what I meant. I meant "normal" exactly like it sounds, "normal". As in, an average, loving couple in a close and caring long term relationship. Most couples in that situation are probably going to get married eventually. I wasn't implying any sexual preference in that statement...that was the whole point. There is this strange idea that a homosexual couple is fundamentally "abnormal" compared to a heterosexual couple, when the feelings involved are mostly the same. That was my point...the fact that JEDIYoda misread it says a lot about him...

An interesting analogy. The common wisdom is that conservatives thing the government is supposed to be their daddy...

In any case, the government is enforcing your view of marriage on everyone by only declaring marriage to be something hetero couples do.

Can any one name a state that NOT support a one man one marriage inititive, law, admendment? Even CA approved one.

Marraige is not a moral issue. It is a contract granted by our society.

Semantics...who cares what you call it? That doesn't change the issue.
