One more thing and THEN I AM done.

Hitler discriminated against homosexuals and in the worst way possible!

This country has come a LONG LONG way in excepting "Alternate" life styles. Just because it hasn't come far enough, FAST enough to suite YOU don't start saying you are being robbed of your rights. It could be MUCH worse. You COULD be living in Nazi Germany, or you COULD be living in THIS country 100 years ago, or even 50 years ago. Count your blessing and move on!

Yes, you should be thankful that you're only being robbed of your constitutional rights 10% as much as you COULD be. Isn't that AWESOME!?

I mean, the biggots of this country are only about 10% as bad as the nazis!

BE THANKFUL!

Right....

Boy, I sure am thankful!

BTW, you were the first to bring up hitler and the Nazis. If you bring up Hitler or the nazis in an argument you automatically lose. This is the law of the internet.

Like how other people continue to post the same thing to make you realize to stop re-posting your 'points' which have already been shredded to pieces?

What you fail to realize is that other people's OPINIONS are just as valid as yours.

See, in a conversation you can bring up ideas. Once those ideas have been plainly and thorough retorted and defeated bringing them up again does nothing. This indicates that you weren't paying attention the defeating retort.
No one has come close to refuting anything I"ve said in that post. Not. One. Thing.

Marriage is DEFINED as between a man and a woman. Anything else, by DEFINTION OF THE WORD, is not a marriage. So, should I ask you to explain where your constitutional rights are being robbed or will that result in you just posting the same thing you have posted several times already?

Hard to come to an agreement with a person that clearly disrespects anyone that disagrees with him.

Do you feel the same options applied to slaves?

My arguement spelled out is:

If there has ever been a law which the majority agreed upon but wasnt right then a law is not right simply based on majority consenus.
I put forth that slavery was lawful but wasnt right.
-----------------------------------------------------------------
I conclude that the current rulings on gay marriage are not right solely because of a majority concensus.

The possibility that it is right of course still exists. I could be wrong. However I cannot accept the arguement that solely because we voted on it and they decided to ban it means it is right.

My original question remains: If God offered them the choice, what gives anyone else the right to deny it to them. Does their marriage jeapordize your safety?

I want to understand why conservatives have voted to ban gay marriage!

So far the only arguements I have gathered are:
The bible says its wrong (they of course avoid my original question.)
We voted on it so its wrong

That definition is invalid according to the constitution as it affords massive rights to some couples and not others. It prohibits equal protection under the law and thus is unconstitutional.
This is what happened in Canada. The supreme court ruled that the defintion of marriage as being a union between a man and a woman was unconstitutional and was thus changed to a 'union between two people.'

Of course there's also that whole 'what your nation is based on' and 'moral majority' thing you ignored.

As I stated before:

The day you can walk up to any southern african american, whos ancestors were slaves, and say to their face that your right to marry another homosexual is paramount to their freedom and they not beat the living hell out of you, then I will change my mind on gay Marriage.

I'll be in South Carolina for a few weeks in Dec, I have plenty of relatives you can try this on.

Id' do it. I'd phrase it different as I have previously in this thread but I would definitely communicate that the same attitude and ignorance and bigotry is what leads to both forms of discrimination and oppression.

Quite obviously it's NOT a constitutional right. It may be in the future, but it isn't now. You may not like it, and it may not be right in your eyes, but that's the way it is. Try again in four years. That's what a democracy is all about! Except that not everyone agrees with you, our your outlook on life. And do your best to change THAT! Whining and bitching isn't gonna get it done. Crying out your RIGHTS being violated isn't gonna get it done. Calling everyone that disagrees with you a religious zealot or a bigot isn't gonna get it done.

The discrimination of gays today is on par with the discrimination against women or slaves in the past.

I dare you to say that to an African American.

I am sure that I just did.

Most open gays experience physical violence or threats within their life, they are outcast from society, they are not allowed all the rights of others. This quite similiar. Granted theyre not put specifically in chains but I think that some people would like to see them that way. I think many would prefer they had seperate bathrooms, water fountains, and busses.

Quite obviously it's NOT a constitutional right.

OMG you just related POPULARITY with CORRECTNESS and Constitutional Correctness. That's really sad.
It IS a constitutional right as evidenced by the ruling of the Mass Supreme court and anyone who can read the 14th amendment. It's just that it hasn't been challenged at the federal supreme court yet to prove its constitutional fortitude as it was in Mass.

The supreme court disagrees with you. I venture to say they likely have a firmer understanding of the constitution.

As I've stated elsewhere, you live in a country that was founded by people that were mostly protestants and were looking for religious freedom. The founding fathers of this nation were believers of God and built much of this nation on the principles of their faith and the rights to practice their faith without prosecution.

Many of us (obviously the majority as of two days ago) agree with these founding principles and wish to keep them.

You obviously have the right to argue your opinion and feelings, and you can thank those founding fathers that believed in God for your right to do so. That said, this is now a stalemate.

I'm not gay so I don't know. I DO know that I repeatedly vote to get things changed that DON'T get changed. And I know my only recourse it to keep trying to GET them changed. And when they get voted down I don't go crying about my "rights" being violated.

Whining and bitching is what causes social change. Declaring that laws are unjust will push social change. You gotta keep fighting for what you believe is right.

But you are right, calling everyone that disagrees with you a bigot will do nothing.
