Kid's who's parents have the financial means over those who don't have the luxury of sending them to private schools. They might not be totally embraced but most private schools don't put up with any amount of shit from the student body at least allowing them to be educated in relative peace.

This school will probably be utilized by families who do not have that option.

What prevents the idiots who ruined public schools from going to this "nicer school"? Is this school going to get more/better funding while only allowing "socially unacceptable" students?

They could try but they'd they'd almost certainly be outnumbered by the very people they enjoy to torment. Doesn't seem like an attractive situation especially since it will be a relatively small school and closely watched for that kind of activity.

Probably not more funding, just built and staffed with this purpose in mind.

As a Chicagoan who pays an assload of property taxs I support this effort.

I just highly highly doubt that they can offer this school to only "special" students while still not spending more than the ghetto ass schools.

This could be good for the individual students, but I wonder if it's not bad for gays as a whole. If this were to catch on nationwide then more gays would undoubtedly graduate, but that might come at the cost of keeping the cultural rift between gays and straights just as wide as it is for far longer than it might be otherwise.

Imagine generations of straight students who come into little contact with gays and can only speculate about what goes on in "that other school". Gays would never be seen as real people and would be far less likely to be accepted by students who had never seen one, but were steeped in the kind of wild rumor about them that only occurs when the object of that rumor is not in evidence to disprove it.

K-12 schooling isnt representative of the real world. Afterawhile, most people mature into adults that at least civil to one another. And after HS you have mroe options as to what environment you want ot immerse yourself in with regard to jobs, schooling, residence.

Unless you are flamboyant, I cant see being gay as the worst thing in high school. Im sure fat kids would LOVE if they could be "closet fat", or pretend to be normal size during school hours. I'm sure the kid with the bowed legs would just KILL if he could appear to walk normal to his peers.
