Gas prices soaring??

Kabob

Lifer
Apparently the Ike speculation is boosting gas prices locally like no-one's business. Gas was $3.59 this morning, it was $4.19 about 2 hours ago, probably alot higher by tonight. They're saying we "might" have to shut down the gas pumps for 2+ weeks.

This is in Birmingham, AL.

Anyone else experiencing this??

I'm gonna laugh if I wake up tomorrow and Ike didn't damage anything...*crosses fingers*

it's almost like something was happening to effect our supply.....let's see if we can brainstorm some ideas

I know why smartass, just commenting on if anyone else is having similar price jumps...

It hasn't gone up here yet, but I was getting close to my 3-4 week fillup so I went early just in case.

If they soared here, I'm going to be pissed. Planning on filling up on the way home, didn't want to do it over lunch.

Did I ever say anything even remotely close to that??

I mentioned Ike in my OP...you must have either missed it or ignored it...

Roughly 20% of the US's refining capacity is offline at the moment. In addition over dozen off shore rigs have been shut down.

The ETA on bringing them back online depends on the severity of the damage.

Gas went down $0.03 cents this morning.

Made sure to fill up, that way if shit does go down I won't have to pay $0.80 more.

Its went up about $0.50 a gallon here today in NC. The guy that works on building new houses in our development told me that there were already some lines at one station.

True. Gas went from like $3.51 to $4.29 and higher here in a matter of hours. Gas is out in many stations and lines are long as hell.

It went from $3.65 to $3.99 where I live today, I'm sure it'll be higher tomorrow. Just goes to show how much they will gouge you when they can.

This is really weird. Oil is bumping up against $100 and prices are going up?

...before the problems could possibly have effected the price of the gas that's already in the tanks they're selling?

Oil futures are for the future, oddly enough. A localized supply drop could raise prices no matter what wholesale crude is going for.

Its not the supply of oil that is the problem.

The problem is 20-25% of US refining capacity has been off line for about a day now, and much of it will be offline until Monday or longer. Several of the refineries in the Houston and Port Aurther area are expected to be flooded and offline for a significant amount of time.

Not really if you understood why. Expected lower supply of gasoline in the US due to the refineries being offline.
